Sage Northcutt will join the PFL roster in 2025 after parting ways with ONE Championship earlier this year. Northcutt (12-3) became a free agent after a tenure with ONE Championship that lasted more than five years but included just two fights. He has stated he seeks activity in his next chapter and will attempt to get that by signing with the PFL. A person with knowledge of the situation told MMA Junkie of Northcutt’s signing on Thursday. The person requested anonymity as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement

ONE Championship announces Sage Northcutt’s ‘mutually agreed’ release from promotion

More than eight months after voicing frustration with the promotion, Sage Northcutt has been granted his ONE Championship release. After signing with the company in 2019, Northcutt (12-3) has only competed twice under the ONE Championship record, going 1-1. The loss was a brutal one, as he suffered a violent 29-second knockout against Cosmo Alexandre in May 2019 that caused multiple facial fractures and led to extensive surgery and a nearly four-year layoff. He picked up his lone promotional win in May 2023 with a 39-second heel hook finish, and was scheduled to face Shinya Aoki at January’s ONE 165 event in Tokyo. The fight was called off late in the game, and Northcutt took issue with the “completely inaccurate” portrayal of what unfolded that led to the bout being canceled.

Sage Northcutt is on the verge of a return to MMA after being out of competition for nearly four years. The former UFC star and now One Championship fighter has been scheduled to face Ahmed Mujtaba on May 5 at ONE Fight Night 10. The bout will be Northcutt’s first fight since May 2019. It has been a long road back for Northcutt (11-3). A series of health issues, including multiple facial fractures suffered in his debut KO loss to Cosmo Alexandre, kept Northcutt out of commission. “Coming out of my last fight, obviously, there was some frustration because taking a loss and how it happened, of course you’re frustrated,” Northcutt told Morning Kombat .
