Cage Warriors plans women’s divisions in four weight classes

The England-based Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, fresh off its latest event in its home country, is planning to ramp up its women’s talent base in a major way. Sources close to the promotion on Monday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Cage Warriors is building women’s divisions at 105, 115, 125 and 135 pounds. A formal announcement from the promotion is expected later today. Cage Warriors is no stranger to women’s fights, but the promotion has not had one since June, when Joanne Calderwood stopped Sally Krumdiack with a first-round TKO at Cage Warriors 53 in Glasgow, Scotland. Calderwood, who was 2-0 for Invicta FC at the time, then went on to another Invicta win earlier this month. The source said Cage Warriors hopes to have at least 10 fighters in each of the four divisions, and already has started signing fighters for upcoming events. The promotion on Saturday hosted Cage Warriors 57, which took place at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England

function not found So far 2013 is falling right in line with Scottish female flyweight Joanne “Jojo” Calderwood ’s first year in fighting; she’s still undefeated and is becoming one of the premier fighters in her weight class. “I’ve had two fights this year, one in Invicta (against Livia von Plettenberg), which seems like ages ago, and one back home in Glasgow (against Sally Krumdiak), and in both fights I got wins and performed really well,” she said. “My first one, I went three rounds in Invicta in January and it was pretty much one-sided. The second one I won in the second round with a TKO and that’s even better because I like ending the fight early and not going to the judges. “ Being undefeated (with a record of 6-0) is familiar territory for Calderwood, as is opponent changes. Prior to settling on Norma Rueda Center (2-0) for this Saturday’s Invicta FC 6 event in Kansas City, Calderwood went through two other opponents. “I just like fighting and the opponent at the end of the day doesn’t really matter,” said Calderwood. “That happens in this sport and it wasn’t the first time it happened to me and it won’t be the last time, so it doesn’t really bother me.

Norma Rueda Center replaces Schneider, meets Joanne Calderwood at Invicta FC 6

Norma Rueda Center (2-0) has replaced injured Sarah Schneider (6-6) and now meets fellow strawweight Joanne Calderwood (6-0) at next month’s Invicta FC 6 event. Invicta FC officials recently confirmed an initial report from MMARising.com . Invicta FC 6 takes place July 13 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The event airs via regular pay-per-view in North America, and international viewers can watch via an online PPV stream. The event is priced at $14.95. This is the second opponent switch for Calderwood, who initially was slated to fight Claudia Gadelha before the switch to Schneider. Calderwood recently fought at Cage Warriors 53 and knocked out Sally Krumdiack
