The lineup for the UFC’s long-awaited return to Mexico in two months continues to build with the addition of a women’s strawweight bout featuring a home-grown prospect. Yazmin Jauregui (10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will take on Sam Hughes (8-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) at the UFC’s Fight Night event in Mexico City on Feb. 24. MMA Junkie confirmed the matchup with people with knowledge of the booking following an initial report from UFC broadcast partner ESPN (via ESPN Deportes ). The UFC’s return to Mexico City will be its first visit to the country in about 4.5 years.

IBJJF, LFA champ Jaqueline Amorim set to debut at UFC 287 in Miami

IBJJF champion Jaqueline Amorim has her first UFC assignment since she joined the promotion in September. Amorim (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will make her first promotional appearance April 8 when she takes on Sam Hughes (7-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) at UFC 287 in Miami. The event takes place at Miami-Dade Arena. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently confirmed it to MMA Junkie but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. MMA Ideas first reported the bout.

LAS VEGAS – Sam Hughes had a bone to pick with Daniel Cormier , and she let the former UFC two-division champion know about it. Hughes, who entered UFC Fight Night 206 as an underdog against Elise Reed, was dominant for the majority of almost 15 minutes en route to a TKO win with ground-and-pound at the 3:52 mark of the third round to open the prelims at the UFC Apex. In the moment, Hughes (7-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC) looked at Cormier and yelled his way, asking if he still thinks she’s a quitter, which Hughes remembers DC saying after her she loss by doctor-stoppage TKO to Tecia Torres in December 2020 at UFC 256. Cormier addressed it head on when it came time to interview Hughes in the octagon after her victory. “You just asked me if I thought you were quitter,” Cormier told her.
