Entering Saturday with identical records under the promotion’s banner, Joey Beltran put his heavyweight title on the line against Sam Shewmaker in the main event of BKFC 18. The event took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., airing on FITE TV. Shewmaker (4-2-1 BKFC) started the first round strong, working behind a sharp left-hand jab. Beltran (5-1-1 BKFC) was bloodied from one of the southpaw strikes, but finished the round strong with a few combinations of his own. The second round started off with a few heated exchanges, as Beltran looked to turn up the pressure.

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship returns on Saturday evening with an exciting lineup of fights featuring a host of former MMA competitors. The event takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and began at 8:30 p.m. ET on FITE TV. The main event of the evening features BKFC heavyweight champion Joey Beltran (4-1-1 BKFC) looking to record his second title defense as he faces squares up against Sam Shewmaker (4-1-1 BKFC).

Bare Knuckle FC’s June event will feature a number of notables from the MMA world competing in championship fights. Friday, the promotion released the planned lineup for its summer event, which does not yet have an official date, but will take place in Miami. In the main event, BKFC heavyweight champion Joey Beltran looks to make his second title defense when he clashes with Sam Shewmaker . The co-headliner will see former Bellator champion Hector Lombard take on former UFC contender Joe Riggs for the vacant middleweight title. In the featured bout, super welterweight champion Luis Palomino will seek his second title defense when he welcomes challenger Tyler GoodJohn .

Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez was telling his old friend Chris Lytle about this weird thing he’d agreed to do. It was a bare-knuckle boxing event, he explained, sanctioned by a state commission, with rounds and rules and refs and judges, but no actual gloves. “He asked me how I was training and I said, ‘Eh, you know, just doing some boxing sparring in the gym,’” Rodriguez told MMAjunkie. “He was the one who told me, ‘No, you can’t train like that. Because a lot of the stuff that you can do with gloves on aren’t going to work in bare knuckle.’” It was then Rodriguez realized that he had a problem.
