BRAVE CF will crown their first ever flyweight champion in a tournament format. The promotion has recently invested in their 125-pound division, adding ex-UFC flyweights Dustin Ortiz , Jose Torres and Zach Makovsky to their ever-growing roster. In November 2018, Russia’s Velimurad Alkhasov defeated Marcel Adur for the vacant flyweight title at BRAVE CF 18 but was not crowned champion due to missing weight. So to crown the promotion’s inaugural 125-pound champion, BRAVE CF officials decided to hold a flyweight tournament, which will include four quarterfinal fights featuring eight of the best 125-pounders across the world. In the first quarter-final fight former Titan FC dual-champ Torres (9-1) will face former CFFC flyweight champ Sean Santella . Torres is coming off a unanimous decision win over current UFC flyweight Amir Albazi in his BRAVE CF debut in April 2019.

A former UFC flyweight has found a new home. Cage Fury Fighting Championships officials today informed MMAjunkie that the promotion has signed 21-year-old Japanese prospect Naoki Inoue (11-1), who now meets veteran flyweight Sean Santella (20-7-1) at CFFC 72. Featuring a pair of title fights in the headlining contests, CFFC takes place Feb.

The game of musical chairs going on with Wilson Reis’ spot at UFC 201 continued today – hopefully, for his sake, for the last round. Reis (20-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) was supposed to challenge flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (24-2-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) for the title later this month at UFC 201 until the champ was knocked out with an injury. But Reis stayed on the card against promotional newcomer Sean Santella (15-5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC). Instead, though, Santella was forced out of the fight because he wasn’t able to clear pre-fight medical tests in time. Now Reis will meet yet another newbie: Hector Sandoval (12-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC). Sean Santella says short-notice UFC 201 bout against Wilson Reis has been scrapped

Sean Santella ’s long-awaited UFC debut, which was scheduled to come on short notice, will apparently have to wait. Earlier this week, UFC officials announced Santella (15-5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) had stepped in for injured flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (24-2-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) and would fight Wilson Reis (20-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) later this month at UFC 201. However, Santella today announced those plans have been scrapped because “they said I need more medicals done … (and) there’s just not enough time before UFC 201” (via Twitter ): I'm sad to announce my UFC debut has been cancelled.
