A featherweight prospect from Mexico will make his UFC debut this fall. Fernando Padilla (14-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will have his first fight against Sean Soriano (14-7 MMA, 0-4 UFC) on the UFC’s Oct. 2 card. A person with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie after an initial report from UFC broadcast partner ESPN . The UFC’s Oct. 2 card does not yet have a publicly announced venue or location, but is likely to air and stream on a combination of ESPN and ESPN+.

Just when it looked like Sean Soriano had his number, Christos Giagos made everyone forget about the opening eight minutes of their UFC 262 fight. In the UFC 262 curtain-jerker, Giagos (19-8 MMA, 4-2 UFC) choked Soriano (14-7 MMA, 0-4 UFC) unconscious to win at the 3:59 mark of Round 2. UFC 262 took place Saturday at Toyota Center in Houston. The main card streamed on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.

Sean Soriano returns to UFC following six-year absence, faces Christos Giagos at UFC 262

More than six years after his first octagon run ended, Sean Soriano is back in the UFC. MMA Junkie on Thursday learned from two people with knowledge of the booking that Soriano (14-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) has replaced Joel Alvarez (18-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and will face Christos Giagos (18-8 MMA, 4-4 UFC) in a lightweight matchup next week at UFC 262 . The people requested anonymity because the UFC has not formally announced the contest. Visa issues forced Alvarez out the original booking. Soriano, 31, was undefeated heading into his first UFC run but then struggled in the octagon falling short against notables Tatsuya Kawajiri, Chas Skelly and Charles Rosa in featherweight contests

Sean Soriano has been to the UFC, and things didn’t work out so well. But that seems to be all the more motivation for him tonight, knowing he’s hungry to earn his way back to the world’s biggest MMA stage. Soriano (11-5) will take on Bruce Boyington (15-11) for the vacant featherweight strap in the co-main event at CES MMA 51, which takes place at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I.

After an 8-0 start to his pro run, he made his UFC debut in 2014. The UFC Fight Night 34 scrap against Tatsuya Kawajiri, however, didn’t go over well for Soriano, who got choked out in the second round. Two setbacks followed, which put an end to the 27-year-old’s UFC run after one year. Soriano rebounded with a knockout win at Legacy FC 48, but he went on to lose the following two under the AXS TV Fights banner, and he now has a recent 1-5 record

CES MMA’s May event continues to grow with the addition of a fight featuring a UFC veteran in his home state. Sean Soriano (9-5), a Rhode Island native, will take on Jacob Bohn (5-3) in a featherweight bout at CES MMA 44. Promotion officials announced the new booking today. CES MMA 44 takes place May 12 at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., with a main card on AXS TV. In the main event, Matt Bessette puts his featherweight title on the line against Jeremy Spoon.

He’d spent a little less than a decade inside MMA gyms had only suffered one loss via knockout. Still, when researchers cut open his brain after Parsons died as a result of injuries sustained in an alleged hit-and-run accident earlier this year, they found the telltale signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy – or CTE – the degenerative brain disease that has plagued athletes in other contact sports from football to boxing to hockey. CES MMA will return to Connecticut next month, and its next card will include a pair of UFC veterans squaring off at featherweight. Levan Makashvili (11-2-1) will take on Sean Soriano (9-4) at CES MMA 38, promotion officials today announced. In addition, a featherweight bout between Calvin Kattar (15-2) and Chris Foster (9-4) was announced, as was a flyweight fight featuring Carlos Candelario (4-0) vs. Brandon Warne (1-1)
