Sergio Pettis loses hard-fought boxing debut in India

Sergio Pettis went up against a much more experienced opponent and was competitive in his boxing debut, but came up short. At Indian Pro Boxing League 2 in Hyderabad, India, on Friday, Pettis (0-1) lost a six-round unanimous decision (59-55, 60-54, 60-54) to home-country champion Sabari Jaishankar (12-3). The bout was contested at 160 pounds. The event streamed on DAZN.

Kyoji Horiguchi will get an opportunity to avenge one of his most notable losses at Rizin 47. Horiguchi captured inaugural Rizin flyweight championship with a second-round submission of Makoto Takahashi this past December. He will return to bantamweight for the first time since September 2022.

Patchy Mix is taking Sergio Pettis very seriously. Interim bantamweight champion Mix (18-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) faces undisputed champ Pettis (23-5 MMA, 9-5 BMMA) in a title unification bout that co-headlines Bellator 301 on Nov. 17 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. This will mark Mix’s second undisputed title opportunity after falling short to Juan Archuleta in 2020.
