Dana White slays Showtime Boxing: ‘Worst production in all of television!’

Following a recent Power Slap event, which is owned in part by Dana White, the UFC president unleashed an epic tirade, shredding Showtime Boxing for “the worst production in all of television!” White was initially singing the praises of his Power Slap production team, saying, “This team that produces this show should win an Emmy. “Watch some of these boxing events that are on,” White continued, before laying into Showtime. “Showtime is horrible. Those guys suck so bad, you f**king guys could show up with your f**king video cameras and do a better job than Showtime. Seriously! It’s the worst production in all of television.” And White doesn’t typically say things like that just to berate his competition.

Showtime might be interested in getting back in the MMA business, and if it is it may already have picked a top draft pick to partner with. Showtime Sports Executive Vice President and General Manager earlier this week, according to a report from FOX Sports Latino , said the premium cable network would consider a return to broadcasting MMA – and likes Invicta Fighting Championships as a possible promotion to team up with. Showtime most recently broadcast MMA in January with Strikeforce’s final card, which took place in Oklahoma City. Chael Sonnen is everywhere these days, or so it seems. And he’s no stranger to calling out other famous athletes, just ask disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong . Sonnen’s latest stop was on a panel on Jim Rome on Showtime, where he took a shot at NBA superstar LeBron James and later added that he would “smack” him and retired NFL great Ray Lewis. However, with an Aug. 17 showdown with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua looming, Sonnen would probably be better served by shifting his focus from other sports back to his own.

Gamers on Monday got their second look at the next title in the EA Sports MMA library with the unveiling of the official video trailer for “EA Sports UFC.” The trailer features prominently a fight between characters for current lightweight champion Benson Henderson and final WEC champion Anthony Pettis , who famously fought at WEC 53 in December 2010. During an opening segment featuring a short montage of hand-to-hand combat through history, a voice-over teases what’s to come: “It is said that the first sport, the original main event that thrilled the masses, considered the greatest spectacle of all, was the fight.” The in-game fight footage includes shows Pettis’ famed “Showtime Kick” off the cage, which he landed against Henderson at WEC 53 to claim the final lightweight title in the promotion’s history. Pettis earlier this year earned the right to be the top contender for Henderson’s title – but then elected to move down to featherweight, where he’ll challenge Jose Aldo at UFC 163 in August. UFC President Dana White, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Henderson all were on hand at the Electronics and Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles to talk about the game, which is expected to release in spring 2014 for play on XBox One and Sony’s anticipated new PlayStation 4. “EA Sports UFC” will replace the most recent game in the UFC division, THQ’s “UFC Undisputed.” EA Sports previously released “EA Sports MMA,” which prominently featured Strikeforce fighters prior to Zuffa’s purchase of that promotion. EA Sports’ most popular games include titles in its Madden franchise for the NFL, NBA Live and FIFA for soccer.
