Melvin Guillard vs. Ross Pearson booked for UFC Fight Night 29 in Manchester

A lightweight matchup and potential slugfest has been added to the UFC’s return to England. UFC officials announced on Tuesday’s new edition of “UFC Tonight” that Melvin Guillard (31-12-2 MMA, 12-8 UFC) and Ross Pearson (15-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will meet at an Oct. 26 UFC Fight Night event scheduled for Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. The contest serves as the co-main event of a card that sees Michael Bisping face Mark Munoz in the main event. The main card airs on FOX Sports 2 followig prelims that stream on Facebook. Guillard looks to build on the strength of a “Knockout of the Night” win over Mac Danzig at July’s UFC on FOX 8 event. The much-needed result helped Guillard snap out of a 1-4 slump and once again showed the potential the 30-year-old slugger always packs in his back pocket

World Series of Fighting Announces Four-Man Middleweight Tournament

World Series of Fighting’s first-ever four-man tournament kicks off Sept. 14 with a pair of middleweight match-ups, as David Branch (12-3) meets Danillo “Indio” Villefort (14-4) and Elvis “The King” Mutapcic (13-2) faces Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (26-9) at World Series of Fighting 5: Johnson vs. Kyle . Both bouts are scheduled for the NBC Sports Network-televised main card of World Series of Fighting 5, which takes place at Revel Casino Hotel’s Ovation Hall in Atlantic City. The winners will meet on a future World Series of Fighting card to claim the tournament crown and establish themselves as the company’s No. 1 contender at 185 pounds. A light heavyweight slugfest between knockout artist Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (15-4) and slugger Mike “MAK” Kyle (20-9-1) serves as the evening’s main event. Thiago Silva vs. Rafael Cavalcante full fight video highlights

FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – After a night full of submissions, Thiago Silva and Rafael Cavalcante threw caution to the wind and decided to engage in a good ol’ fashioned slugfest. It was a wise move for Silva. The light heavyweights met on the FUEL TV-televised main card of Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. With both fighters in head-hunting mode and launching power shots in their grudge match, Silva (15-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) eventually backed his opponent to the cage and tagged Cavalcante (11-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a series of straight punches. His fellow Brazilian eventually crumpled to the mat, and Silva finished him off with follow-up shots late in the first round. Check out the highlights above.
