Former middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis returns to the octagon on July 18 in the UFC Fight Night 281 main event against former welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman . It will be Du Plessis’ first fight since losing the title to Khamzat Chimaev last August. Usman called for the fight months ago but it wasn’t signed until now.

After blasting Sports Illustrated on ESPN2, UFC President Dana White today made an appearance on “SI Now,” where he angrily denounced the storied news outlet’s coverage of UFC 162. “I honestly thought you guys were calling to apologize because you were embarrassed at how ridiculous your show was,” White told SI Now’s Maggie Gray, who this past week moderated a panel of writers who discussed the possibility of fight-fixing at the July 6 pay-per-view event. “Now as I sit here and talk to you, you’re even more ridiculous, and I’ll bet you this whole interview doesn’t see the light of day. If your producer’s smart, he’ll take this tape out and throw it right in the garbage so the world can’t hear what I’m saying to you right now.” SI, of course, did release the interview as part of the show, which covers a variety of current topics in the sports world. On Wednesday, an SI PR rep declined to comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on White’s interview with ESPN2′s “Highly Questionable,” where he interrupted an interview to blast the SI panel . Gray defended the segment by saying the topic of fight-fixing had also been broached by reporters covering the event.

So Chael Sonnen fooled the world into thinking he didn’t know whether Dan Henderson was injured leading up to UFC 151, or he fooled the world into thinking he did. Either way, Greg Jackson can’t hate. “I don’t know if that’s true, but I’d like to think it is,” the trainer today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) in response to Sonnen’s recent claim he had advance notice of his former Team Quest teammate’s knee injury and “set up” Jackson’s pupil, light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones . “I think Chael is very smart, and that would be another testament to that fact,” Jackson said. “I love the guy, and if he did indeed control the situation like that, it shows real tactical brilliance. “He could also just be messing around, which is funny as hell. Who knows? Either way, I wish him the best.” Given Sonnen’s penchant for outrageous claims, it would be ill-advised to take at face value his recent statement, which he gave during a Sunday edition of “UFC Tonight: Fight Edition.” Henderson couldn’t be reached for comment
