Matt Grice vs. Jeremy Larsen at featherweight added to UFC 166

Matt Grice (15-5 MMA, 2-6 UFC) and Jeremy Larsen (8-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) are the latest additions to this fall’s UFC 166 event. UFC officials on Wednesday night announced the bout, which sees Larsen drop to 145 pounds for the first time. It’s not yet known whether the contest will serve on the event’s pay-per-view main card or preliminary cards, which air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on Facebook. UFC 166 takes place Oct. 19 at Houston’s Toyota Center. Larsen is in dire need of a win inside the octagon following back-to-back losses in a pair of UFC fights. On the regional scene, he went 8-2 in a five-year span before appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter 15.” Grice, meanwhile, also is looking to rebound after a valiant effort against Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157, which resulted in a split-decision loss and well-deserved “Fight of the Night” bonus. function not found The UFC on Fox 8 fight card slated for July 27 in Seattle is under attack, or so it seems. In a 24-hour span, three fights have been affected with one cancellation and two opponent changes. A heavyweight bout between Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione has been removed from the UFC on Fox 8 fight card altogether after Mitrione withdrew from the bout due to injury. Instead of trying to find Schaub a new opponent, the promotion instead pulled the fight altogether with the intent to reschedule it for a later date.

Ex-WWE star Bobby Lashley seeks multi-fight deal, wants four more fights in 2013

If things go according to his plans, Lashley could have as many as six fights under his belt by year’s end. “There’s a couple organizations right now that we’re talking about doing a multi-fight deal with, so it’s just time to feel some things out,” Lashley told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “It’s time to figure out who would like to have me for the next few fights.” Lashley, who recently took some time off from MMA to work a few things out in his personal life, has returned to the sport with a vengeance, earning two wins in a span of just 22 days, both coming by way of submission. Both victories came against fighters coming off losses, but Lashley believes they were the right opponents for him to continue his development as a fighter. UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey tries to emulate her favorite fighter, Fedor Emelianenko , in her fights. “My favorite fighter to watch ever I would say is Fedor Emelianenko,” Rousey said during a Facebook chat sponsored by Metro PCS on Wednesday. Emelianenko held the Pride FC heavyweight title from 2003 to 2006. In an eight-year span, the Russian strung together an unprecedented 28-fight winning streak. He’s widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight of all time. “He’s always going to be my favorite. It was the first highlight reel I ever saw of MMA. I loved his style and how he came from a Judo-Sambo background, and I really try to emulate his style every time that I fight,” said Rousey. UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 official for Brazil with Bader-Teixeira, Okami-Souza

The UFC’s third event in less than a three-week span on the new FOX Sports 1 cable channel is official for Brazil. UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 will take place in Belo Horizonte with a main event between light heavyweights Ryan Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Glover Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC). The co-main event will feature middleweights Yushin Okami (29-7 MMA, 13-4 UFC) and Ronaldo Souza (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC). Also official for the show is a flyweight bout between Joseph Benavidez (18-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Jussier Formiga (15-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC). UFC officials made the card’s location and top-billed fights official overnight.
