Jorge Masvidal vs. Rustam Khabilov set for November UFC on FOX Sports 1 card

That didn’t take long. Jorge Masvidal moved to 2-0 in the UFC on Saturday, and he’s already got his next assignment. Masvidal (25-7 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been booked for a lightweight fight against Rustam Khabilov (16-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC). FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” correspondent Ariel Helwani reported the news as part of Tuesday night’s episode. The fight reportedly will take place in November on a yet-to-be-announced FOX Sports 1 card. Masvidal this past Saturday submitted Michael Chiesa in the second round at UFC on FOX 8, which took place at KeyArena in Seattle. Despite a rough first round in which Masvidal was dropped by a Chiesa left hand, he went on to hand Chiesa his first career loss with a guillotine D’Arce choke. Masvidal, a former lightweight title challenger in Strikeforce, now has won three straight since his loss to Gilbert Melendez for that belt in December 2011.

UFC Fight Night 28 Adds Two New Bouts: Robertson vs. Zeferino and Trinaldo vs. Hallmann

Two more bouts have been added to the nearly complete UFC fight Night 28 (formerly UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3) fight card. Welterweights Kenny Robertson will face Joao Zeferino while lightweight Francisco Trinaldo takes on UFC newcomer Piotr Hallmann on the Sept. 4 event. Robertson (12-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) lost his first two UFC bouts to Mike Pierce and Aaron Simpson before logging his lone UFC victory against Brock Jardine at UFC 157 . He is coming off a loss in his last outing to Sean Pierson and is in desperate need of a win. Zeferino (13-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will try to get his first UFC win when he faces Robertson. He made his promotional debut on May 18, losing a unanimous decision to Rafael Natal. Trinaldo (13-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is on a two-fight winning streak with victories over C.J.

The fight card is set for “UFC Fight Night 27: Condit vs. Kampmann 2″ (formerly UFC on FOX Sports 1 2) with a main card on FOX Sports 1 and prelims on FOX Sports 2 and Facebook. The event, which is the second UFC on FOX Sports 1 event, takes place Aug. 28 at Indianapolis’ Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The headliner features a rematch between Carlos Condit (28-7 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Martin Kampmann (20-6 MMA, 11-5 UFC), who currently are ranked No. 4 and No. 9, respectively, in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA welterweight rankings . Tickets for the UFC’s first FOX Sports 1 card in Brazil, which features a light heavyweight main event between Ryan Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Glover Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC), go on sale Friday. UFC Fight Night 28 (formerly UFC on FOX Sports 1 3) takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC’s second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012. UFC officials recently announced ticket prices for the event will be available starting at 10 a.m. in Belo Horizonte through ticketsforfun.com.br , and will range in price from $75 Brazilian Real ($34 US) to $450 Real ($202 US). In the main event, Brazilian fan favorite Teixeira looks to stay perfect in the UFC and run his win streak to 20 when he meets Bader, who got back in the win column in January with a 50-second stoppage of Vladimir Matyushenko . “It’s a dream to make a major fight in the UFC,” Teixeira stated, “(especially) in the state where I was born.

An injury has forced UFC welterweight Thiago Alves off of the Aug. 17 UFC on Fox Sports 1 fight card in Boston. UFC officials made the announcement on Wednesday. Another change has hit the preliminary card of the UFC’s August return to Boston. Akira Corassani (11-3-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been forced out of his featherweight bout against former WEC champion Mike Brown (26-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC), and stepping in for him will be another Season 14 “Ultimate Fighter” alum in Steven Siler (22-10 MMA, 4-1 UFC). UFC officials recently announced the fight switch for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which takes place Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. The show will be the UFC’s first on the new FOX Sports 1 cable network, which will launch the same day. Siler got back in the win column in April with a unanimous decision win over Kurt Holobaugh at UFC 159 in Newark, N.J. The UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen fight card slated for Aug. 17 in Boston will move forward as planned after UFC officials avoided disaster due to Massachusetts’ requirement for all fighters to have a social security number in order to compete. The requirement nearly tripped up several foreign fighters on the card since they would not normally have a social security number. UFC officials worked overtime, however, to make sure that the fight card will move forward as planned, according to a Boston Herald report. Fighters that enter the U.S. with a valid visa can apply for a social security number. It’s a time consuming process, but the UFC worked with the proper authorities to make it happen.
