Chael Sonnen “Likely” to be Granted License to Fight at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston

Following numerous hurdles, it appears that Chael Sonnen will get licensed to fight in the UFC Fight Night 26 main event slated for Aug. 17 in Boston. Sonnen is scheduled to face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the top fight on the card, which serves as prime time launch programming for the new Fox Sports 1 network. Sonnen faced a couple of hurdles en route to the bout. For one, the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission lacked experience in dealing with therapeutic use exemptions for testosterone replacement therapy, which Sonnen says he requires for medical reasons.

UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie failed to drive much interest heading into Saturday’s pay-per-view event, which emanated from Rio de Janeiro, and that was reflected in the TV ratings for the preliminary bout broadcast on FX. The UFC 163 Prelims on FX attracted an audience of 1,000,000 viewers for the four-bout, two-hour broadcast. UFC 163 admittedly suffered from a lack of promotional attention overall with the launch of Fox’s new nationwide sports network, Fox Sports 1, and the re-branding of Fuel TV to Fox Sports 2, receiving the lion’s share of the media giant’s focus.

Joe Murphy Out at WSOF 4, Top Bantamweight Prospect John Robles Now Faces Jared Papazian

Joe Murphy suffered a rib injury and has been forced out of his World Series of Fighting 4 bout with John Robles. Jared Papazian, on just two weeks notice, has already agreed to step in and take his place, according to WSOF officials. Papazian and Robles now meet in a bantamweight contest at World Series of Fighting 4: Spong vs. DeAnda on Aug. 10 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. World Series of Fighting’s first-ever four-man tournament kicks off Sept. 14 with a pair of middleweight match-ups, as David Branch (12-3) meets Danillo “Indio” Villefort (14-4) and Elvis “The King” Mutapcic (13-2) faces Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (26-9) at World Series of Fighting 5: Johnson vs. Kyle .
