Bo Nickal signs with Real American Freestyle in return to wrestling

Promotional officials told MMA Fighting that the UFC middleweight has signed with Real American Freestyle wrestling organization. Nickal plans to compete for Real American Freestyle while also continuing on his mixed martial arts journey.

Biogenesis Drug Scandal Could Include MMA; UFC President Dana White Weighs In (Video)

There has been a major scandal brewing in the world of sports, once again centering on illegal performance enhancing drugs and treatments. There are claims that Biogenesis and its founder, Tony Bosch, have been providing PEDs to numerous athletes in the professional sports world. Thus far, the spotlight and accusations have focused primarily on Major League Baseball stars like Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun. The man who blew the whistle on Biogenesis, Porter Fischer, recently indicated that there are athletes from numerous other sports involved as well, specifically mentioning the NBA and mixed martial arts. There was no indication who the mixed martial artists involved were, but as with anything MMA, UFC president Dana White , at his UFC on Fox 8 post-fight scrum with reporters, was grilled about the Biogenesis scandal and the questions about what if a UFC fighter was involved. UFC’s Dana White to Sports Illustrated: Do your homework on MMA

After blasting Sports Illustrated on ESPN2, UFC President Dana White today made an appearance on “SI Now,” where he angrily denounced the storied news outlet’s coverage of UFC 162. “I honestly thought you guys were calling to apologize because you were embarrassed at how ridiculous your show was,” White told SI Now’s Maggie Gray, who this past week moderated a panel of writers who discussed the possibility of fight-fixing at the July 6 pay-per-view event. “Now as I sit here and talk to you, you’re even more ridiculous, and I’ll bet you this whole interview doesn’t see the light of day. If your producer’s smart, he’ll take this tape out and throw it right in the garbage so the world can’t hear what I’m saying to you right now.” SI, of course, did release the interview as part of the show, which covers a variety of current topics in the sports world. On Wednesday, an SI PR rep declined to comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on White’s interview with ESPN2′s “Highly Questionable,” where he interrupted an interview to blast the SI panel . Gray defended the segment by saying the topic of fight-fixing had also been broached by reporters covering the event.

Bantamweight Ed West granted release from Bellator, looks for quick turnaround

As far as breakups go, Ed West ‘s departure from Bellator MMA sounds like the start of a courtship, not a divorce. But sometimes in the pro sports world, athletes and their bosses part ways amicably – or mostly amicably. That appears to be the case with West and the California-based promotion. West (18-7 MMA, 4-3 BFC) on Tuesday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has been granted his release from Bellator and will be exploring the free-agent MMA market, and Bellator officials confirmed the fighter’s release. “I spent three years with Bellator, and I had a really good time with them,” West said.
