UFC Champ Ronda Rousey is Latest Maxim Magazine Cover Girl; Graces September Issue

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey doesn’t step back into the Octagon until she squares off with Miesha Tate at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas. Prior to that, Rousey is still remaining busy. In addition to being a coach opposite Tate and the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate and having a role in the upcoming movie Expendables 3, Rousey has also added Maxim cover girl to her resume. Rousey will grace the cover of Maxim’s September issue and will have several photos featured in the magazine. Here is the Ronda Rousey Maxim cover shot.

Diego Sanchez “110% Pulling for Johny Hendricks” but Is He Stabbing Georges St-Pierre in the Back?

Teammate, former teammate, or whatever you want to call him, Diego Sanchez does not appear to be a Georges St-Pierre fan… or a Rory MacDonald fan, for that matter. Sanchez is pulling for Johny Hendricks and Jake Ellenberger to win their respective match-ups. “I am 110% pulling for @JohnyHendricks to beat GSP and @EllenbergerMMA to smash rory #USA,” Sanchez tweeted on Friday. St-Pierre is set to defend his welterweight title against Hendricks at UFC 167 in November in Las Vegas. GSP’s TriStar Gym teammate, Rory MacDonald, squares off with Ellenberger at next week’s UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle.

UFC 164 Gains Derek Brunson vs. Yoel Romero and Magnus Cedenblad vs. Jared Hamman

UFC officials on Monday added two middleweight bouts to the UFC 164 fight card. Derek Brunson squares off with Yoel Romero, while Magnus Cedenblad faces Jared Hamman. UFC 164 features lightweight champion Benson Henderson putting his belt on the line against TJ Grant in the main event on pay-per-view. The event is slated for Aug. 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Brunson (10-2) was rebooked for UFC 164 after his UFC on Fuel TV 10 bout with Ronny Markes was cancelled on the day of weigh-ins. Markes was pulled from the fight after being involved in a car accident. Brunson is one of the fighters that moved over to the UFC when Strikeforce closed up shop.

Tyson Griffin Makes Promotional Debut Against JZ Cavalcante at WSOF 4 in August

UFC veteran Tyson Griffin will make his promotional debut at World Series of Fighting 4, when he squares off with Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante . WSOF president Ray Sefo and executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed the bout to MMAWeekly.com. It was first reported by Brazilian website Tatame.com . A 1-4 skid saw him ushered out of the Octagon in late 2011, but Griffin (16-6) has undergone a lot of changes in the past couple years. He rejuvenated his training with a move from Xtreme Couture to American Kickboxing Academy. Griffin then defeated The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero at RFA 4 late last year before signing with the World Series of Fighting. Cavalcante (17-7-1) was consistently regarded one of the Top 10 lightweights in the world in the early to mid 2000s, but has had a rough time gaining any momentum over the past few years, losing more often than winning. He is 1-1 fighting for WSOF, having competed on their first two fight cards

Octagon Newcomer Brandon Thatch Squares Off with Justin Edwards at UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2

UFC officials on Wednesday announced the addition of a welterweight bout between Justin Edwards and promotional newcomer Brandon Thatch to UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2, which takes place on Aug. 28 in Indianapolis. Edwards (8-2) made his way to the Octagon as a replacement fighter on the thirteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter. He didn’t progress far on the reality show, but he has remained with the UFC for the past two years, alternating between wins and losses in his four bouts for the promotion. He enters the fight with Thatch having submitted Josh Neer at UFC on FX 5 last October. Edwards was supposed to have faced Gunnar Nelson in February, but pulled out of the fight due to injury. Thatch (9-1) makes his long awaited UFC debut after having racked up eight consecutive victories. He most recently defeated Mike Rhodes in the RFA 7 main event in March
