South African Muay Thai standout Vuyisile Colossa registered the biggest win of his burgeoning MMA career with a unanimous decision victory over former lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku in the main event of ONE FC: Champions & Warriors on Friday. There were ten fights on the card at the Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta. The main event was one of only three to go the distance with six of the bouts finishing inside the opening round. Boku is best known for the come-from-behind win over Zorobabel Moreira last year, which saw him crowned the inaugural ONE FC 155-pound titleholder

Agon Wrestling Targeting First MMA-Style Event for October with Several MMA Fighters on Board

As the wrestling world continues to wait on the upcoming vote by the International Olympic Committee for the verdict for what will be the final sport added to the 2020 games, the community at large isn’t slowing its plans for overall growth. As first teased on MMAWeekly.com a few months back, promoters are mounting plans to put together a first-of-its-kind wrestling event that will mimic many major MMA shows, such as the UFC or Bellator, while also taking a page from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu events such as Metamoris. Sources have indicated to MMAWeekly.com that plans are coming together for the first event to be held on Oct. 22 at the Rio in Las Vegas for the first ever Agon Wrestling Championships. The promotion is apparently eyeing three possible match-ups, including a main event that could see a Bellator champion step back on the mats that he called home for many years. The main event currently in discussion with event promoters could pit former Olympian and two-time NCAA champion Ben Askren in a folk-style wrestling match against four-time NCAA champion (from four different weight divisions) Kyle Dake. The promotion hopes to crown the winner as the No. 1 contender in the world folk-style wrestling championship, with Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs likely sitting as the top-ranked wrestler in that division. Other match-ups that are currently being pursued include current Bellator wrestler and former NCAA champ Bubba Jenkins against former teammate from Penn State Frank Molinaro, as well as NCAA All-American and current RFA champion Lance Palmer against Oklahoma State standout Jordan Oliver.

Former Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino captured her second major title on Saturday night in the main event of Invicta FC 6 in Kansas City, Mo. Justino stopped Marloes “Rumina” Coenen for the second time to claim the inaugural Invicta FC 145-pound championship. Justino (12-1) was in complete control of Saturday’s rematch and pay-per-view headliner from start to finish. She battered Coenen (21-6) with punches, knees and brutal slams that kept the Dutch standout on the defensive throughout the one-sided fight. Coenen did threaten with a kneebar in Round 2, but Justino easily escaped and she scored with more big punches on the feet

Pedro Munhoz, Keoni Koch meet for bantamweight title in RFA 9 main event

Resurrection Fighting Alliance returns next month for its first show in California, featuring a delayed bantamweight title fight. “RFA 9: Munhoz vs. Koch” is set for Aug. 16 at StubHub Center in Los Angeles. Promotion officials recently announced the fight card, which will have a six-fight main card that airs live on AXS TV. In the main event, the vacant bantamweight title will be on the line as Pedro Munhoz (8-0) meets Keoni Koch (5-0), the older brother of UFC featherweight standout Erik Koch . “I am so excited to bring the RFA to Los Angeles and to give fans in my hometown this championship title fight between undefeated Pedro Munhoz and undefeated Keoni Koch,” RFA President Ed Soares stated. “This fight not only gives the winner the RFA world bantamweight title, he also gets to prove on live national television that he’s one of the toughest rising stars in the division.” Munhoz was supposed to fight Koch at RFA 8, but Koch was forced out with an injury.

After knockout win at UFC 162, Mike Pierce targets Jake Shields

UFC welterweight Mike Pierce said he drew motivation from a meeting at UFC 162 where fighters were told competitors they should wow fans if they wanted to be paid and placed better in the promotion. “I went out there and tried to do just that,” Pierce (17-5 MMA, 9-3 UFC) told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). Although the first round of his fight appeared to be a copy of earlier fights in which he smothered his way to a victory, the 32-year-old Portland, Ore., native and wrestling standout got space in the second and flattened David Mitchell (12-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) with a punch combination. “I feel so much better on the feet, hitting guys and ending the fight early,” said Pierce, who believes those skills could come in handy if he gets the opponent he wants for his next bout – Jake Shields , who recently outpointed Tyron Woodley at UFC 161. “Man, that guy, he’s tough,” Pierce said of the former Strikeforce middleweight champ and current UFC welterweight
