It’s one British fighter out, one in as Stefano Paterno gets a new opponent for his hometown promotional debut at Bellator Europe 5 in Milan. Former Cage Warriors welterweight champion Paterno (12-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) was due to take on Galore Bofando at the Allianz Cloud on October 12, but Bellator officials confirmed to MMA Junkie that the London Shootfighters welterweight has withdrawn from the card, with fellow countryman Ashley Reece signing on the dotted line to replace him. Known as “The Beast”, Reece (8-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) has appeared twice under the Bellator Europe banner, having picked up back-to-back victories at Bellator Europe 1 in Newcastle and Bellator Europe 2 in Birmingham. Now the former Full Contact Contender veteran is set to make the third appearance of his Bellator career as he steps in to face Paterno on less than a month’s notice

Welterweight champ Stefano Paterno headlines Cage Warriors 98 vs. Ross Houston

Mehrdad Janzemini meets Stefano Paterno for welterweight title at Cage Warriors 95

The welterweight title will be up for grabs when Cage Warriors returns to London next month. England’s Mehrdad Janzemini (9-2) will take on Italy’s Stefano Paterno for the 170-pound belt at Cage Warriors 95, the promotion recently announced. Cage Warriors 95 takes place July 21 at Indigo at The O2 in London.

7-time UFC vet Cody McKenzie aims for Venator FC gold in 4-man, single-night tourney

“The AK Kid” will soon look to claim a welterweight title previously held by two current UFC signees. Italy’s Venator FC recently announced that “The Ultimate Fighter 12” cast member Cody McKenzie (16-10) is one of four entrants into the promotion’s upcoming single-night tourney, which takes place this Saturday at Teatro Principe in Milan. McKenize meets 22-year-old Italian Stefano Paterno (7-2) in the opening round, while Italy’s Giorgio Pietrini (11-4) meets Eulogio Fernandez (11-7) on the opposite side of the bracket. According to Venator FC officials, the opening round of the tournament will feature two-round contests, while the final will be three rounds. Veteran referee Marc Goddard is slated to oversee the contests, and the Federazione Italiana Grappling Mixed Martial Arts while sanction the bouts and provide drug testing for the event.
