Former two-time heavyweight champion Miocic retired after suffering a third-round TKO loss to heavyweight champ Jon Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) last November at UFC 309. But when asked whom he believes is the “Baddest Man on the Planet,” Miocic instead named Francis Ngannou , with whom he split two UFC title fights. “I’ll go with Francis just because he is tearing it up,” Miocic told The Schmo . UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall didn’t get the opportunity to unify the title at UFC 309, but he was cageside to watch Jon Jones defend against Stipe Miocic . The main event of the penultimate UFC pay-per-view of 2024 took place at Madison Square Garden in New York, topped by a heavyweight title bout billed as a GOAT vs. GOAT showdown. Aspinall, who weighed in as an alternate and would have much rather been competing in that main event fight against Jones, had to settle for watching cageside.

To the credit of the often underappreciated UFC production team, a farewell package was in place to roll after Miocic’s final fight – but the former champ understandably declined his time in the spotlight after falling to Jones at Madison Square Garden.
