Cage Warriors 58 adds four new bouts, including 2013′s first heavyweight fight

Next month’s Cage Warriors 58 card has four new additions, including the organization’s first heavyweight fight of 2013. Officials today announced the quartet of fights, which take place Aug. 24 at Olympisk Arena in Grozny, Chechnya. The main card streams on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following prelims on Facebook. The heavyweight contest pits Michal Andryszak (9-3), a 21-year-old Polish prospect who has nine stoppages (eight in the first round) in nine career wins, vs. Ion Cutelaba (4-0), an undefeated Moldovan who’s finished three of four opponents in less than a minute each.

Keon Caldwell believes there’s a common misconception about fighter Nick Newell : fighting him is a lose-lose situation. The argument, it goes, is that defeating a one-handed MMA fighter like Newell doesn’t earn you much credibility, and losing to him can be an incredibly embarrassing setback. But Caldwell (9-1), who meets Newell in a main-card lightweight bout next month at World Series of Fighting 4, doesn’t see it that way at all. Newell (9-0), a former XFC fighter, is 9-0 with eight first-round stoppages, including six via submission. He’s no longer the “the fighter with one hand” so much as he is a legit prospect with proven stopping ability. “He’s a man just like we are, but he’s taken it to the another level with how he is,” Caldwell told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio).

UFC on FUEL TV 10 a night of records, including eight submissions

Leave it to Brazil to set a record for submissions. It’s completely appropriate. Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 card set a new UFC record with eight submissions in 12 fights – and tied a promotional record with 10 total stoppages. The show took place in, of course, the cradle of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. UFC on FUEL TV 10 took place at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. The main card aired on FUEL TV following prelims on Facebook. Apart from the eight submissions, there were a pair of knockouts and just two decisions. But it was the tapouts that everyone was talking about

WSOF inks undefeated lightweight prospect Lewis Gonzalez

World Series of Fighting has another addition to its lightweight roster following the signing of Lewis Gonzalez to a multi-fight deal. His manager, Dave Hirschbein, confirmed the signing with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. Although a debut date and opponent haven’t been set, the undefeated fighter is expected to compete for the organization in August or September. Gonzalez (8-0), who joins fellow recent signee Keon Caldwell in the growing 155-pound division , is a two-time state high-school wrestling champion who made his pro MMA debut in September 2011. Since then, the 25-year-old has posted seven stoppages (five submissions) in eight career wins. According to Hirschbein, who runs the MMAGOLD gym in Folsom, Calif., Gonzalez fielded multiple offers before ultimately choosing WSOF, which currently airs its events on the NBC Sports Network. Most recently, Gonzalez earned a decision victory over undefeated Emmanuel Sanchez at a May 3 regional show in California

Cage Warriors 55 is in the books, and you can now watch video highlights from this past weekend’s event. The show took place June 1 at The Helix in Dublin. The main card, which streamed on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), featured a variety of stoppages, including an array of submissions. WSOF inks lightweight Keon Caldwell to multi-fight deal

The World Series of Fighting lightweight roster has grown with the addition of Keon Caldwell . MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the signing with Caldwell’s manager, Jason Ellis of Relentless Sport Management. Terms of the multi-fight deal weren’t disclosed, though the fighter, who’s previously competed as a welterweight, is expected to make his debut in late summer or early fall. Caldwell (9-1) had a brief appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter 13″ before leaving the show early for family reasons. Although it wasn’t shown on the reality show, Ellis said Caldwell was told his daughter was hospitalized and that doctors couldn’t break her fever. He opted to leave the show during the second episode to tend to his daughter, who ultimately recovered. Inside the cage, Caldwell has won two straight fights since a submission loss to MFC vet Dhiego Lima in July 2010. He rebounded with knockout wins over Bryan Keller and Jonathan Baldree, which earned him a Southeastern Fighting Champions title, in his home state of Georgia. Caldwell, who hasn’t fought since July 2011, owns nine stoppages in nine career wins.
