UFC 224 medical suspensions: Champ Amanda Nunes gets 180-day term

Two fighters, including headliner and women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes , have received UFC 224 mandatory medical suspensions that could last six months. MMAjunkie today obtained the list of medical suspensions from Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) – the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission – which oversaw Saturday’s pay-per-view event at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Seven fighters received suspensions of at least 60 days (all fighters are given terms of at least 14 days with no contact permitted while training for seven days). Nunes (16-4 MMA, 9-1 UFC), who defended her belt with a lopsided fifth-round stoppage victory over challenger Raquel Pennington (9-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC), has been suspended 180 days due to a possible right-foot injury. However, she be cleared early by a doctor and X-ray, though even if cleared, she’s suspended for a minimum of 30 days. Pennington has been suspended 60 days with no contact for 45 days due to possible facial injuries.

The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 224 event at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims on FX and a main card on pay-per-view. Alves looked comfortable to open, patient in the pocket but firing with bad intentions. Aliev wisely moved to the clinch and looked to slow things down, but Alves circled to the outside position and drive several knees to the body.

A welterweight bout is the latest addition to the UFC 224 lineup in Brazil in May. Warlley Alves (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) will fight in his home country when he takes on Sultan Aliev (14-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC). UFC officials announced the bout today during a news conference for the event in Brazil. UFC 224 will take place May 12 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main card will air on pay-per-view following preilms on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass

Two fights added to UFC on FOX 22, including Team Alpha Male’s Josh Emmett

The UFC’s final FOX event of the year is taking shape, and the promotion today announced two additional contests for the card. The new bouts includes a lightweight bout between hometown fighter Josh Emmett against fellow prospect Scott Holtzman , as well as a welterweight matchup between Russia’s Sultan Aliev and Serbia’s Bojan Velickovic .
