UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre met with media during the UFC World Tour 2013 stop in Las Vegas on Monday. As he readies for his upcoming bout with Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, GSP talked about Saturday’s UFC on Fox 8 co-main event between his teammate and friend Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger. MacDonald walked away with the victory against “The Juggernaut,” but questions lingered as to whether it warranted a future title shot. In this video shot by MMAWeekly staff writer Ryan McKinnell, St-Pierre also addresses the mounting pressure of a potential match-up between the two friends and training partners. UFC welterweight contender Rory MacDonald spent much of the past few weeks insisting he would not and could not fight friend and teammate Georges St-Pierre . Not even for the UFC welterweight title St-Pierre has held for the last five years. Before MacDonald’s lackluster unanimous decision win against Jake Ellenberger (29-7 MMA, 8-3 UFC) at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle, UFC President Dana White said he didn’t believe it. After the plodding performance by MacDonald (15-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC), who used a jab and a front kick and little else to win the fight on all three judges’ scorecards, it seemed like persuading MacDonald to accept a UFC title shot was the least of White’s concerns. “I don’t think he moves down the ladder,” White said of MacDonald after the event. “But do you think anybody’s screaming to see him fight again?” White had a point. Brian Melancon Agrees to Fight Kelvin Gastulem at UFC Fight Night 27

Brian Melancon has agreed to step in for Paulo Thiago at UFC Fight Night 27 , which is slated for Aug. 28 in Indianapolis. UFC officials announced the move on Tuesday. Thiago was slated to welcome The Ultimate Fighter 17 middleweight winner Kelvin Gastulem to the welterweight division, but after the Brazilian suffered a left knee injury, Melancon will get to do the honors. Gastelum (6-0) defeated heavily favored Team Sonnen teammate Uriah Hall at TUF 17 Finale on April 13 in his official UFC debut, becoming the youngest winner in the reality show’s history. In the days following the win, the 21-year-old announced that he would make the move to 170 pounds.

Cub Swanson Wants a Title Shot, but Isn’t Going to Wait for One

UFC featherweight contender Cub Swanson wants a title shot against champion Jose Aldo , but isn’t going to sit around and wait for it to happen. Riding a five-fight winning streak and finishing four of his last five opponents, Swanson has positioned himself on a short list of names at the top of the 145-pound division. Aldo is scheduled to face Chan Sung Jung , “The Korean Zombie,” on August 3 at UFC 163 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and if Swanson has to take another fight before getting a crack at the title, he has some names in mind. “Well, if they are going to give someone else Aldo then that’s way too long for me to wait. I’m in prime position right now. I’m doing well. There’s no sense in me waiting, but I do want that fight and if I have to fight one more time then I would like the Ricardo Lamas fight or the Frankie Edgar fight,” Swanson told MMAWeekly.com content partner Knockout Radio . “There’s also Chad Mendes , but he’s got to get through my teammate, Clay Guida , first,” he added. “So my first choice would be Aldo. I don’t think The Korean Zombie is going to beat him and so then after that it would either be Lamas or Edgar. They’d be my next choices.” Taking another fight in the talent-rich 145-pound division is risky, but it’s a risk Swanson is willing to take. “I’ve thought about that and I just think that if I did, for some reason, lose because the talent is so high, I wouldn’t get down on myself. I would just make the adjustments and try to get right back on a win streak because at this point of my career and in my life, I’m having so much fun fighting and I just like to get out there and do it,” he said

T.J. Dillashaw meets Raphael Assuncao at UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 in Brazil

Team Alpha Male’s September trip to Brazil has increased by one for a key matchup at bantamweight. T.J. Dillashaw (8-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has been booked for a bout against Raphael Assuncao (20-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) when the UFC returns to Belo Horizonte for UFC on FOX Sports 1 3. Globo first reported the news, though UFC officials have yet to make a formal announcement. UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC’s second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012. Dillashaw joins teammate Joseph Benavidez , who fights Jussier Formiga at flyweight, as Team Alpha Male fighters on the card in Brazil.
