Quinn Mulhern (18-3) was hoping to rebound from a technical knockout loss in his UFC debut with a win at UFC Fight Night 32 . The opportunity to capture his first UFC victory will have to wait for a later date. Mulhern was scheduled to face Thiago Tavares at UFC Fight Night 32 on Nov. 9, but an injury has forced the lightweight off the card. Justin Salas has agreed to replace Mulhern against Tavares on short notice. UFC officials confirmed the injury and opponent change on Friday

Doctors Nearly Stopped Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson Heading into Final Round

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones narrowly escaped a technical knockout loss in the UFC 165 main event against Alexander Gustafsson . Jones received a cut over his right eye in the opening round that impaired his vision and proved difficult for his cutman to close. The ringside doctor took a close look at the laceration following the fourth round and considered stopping the fight.

Alistair Overeem is Focused on Getting Back on Track Against Travis Browne at UFC Fight Night 26

UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem hopes to rebound from a knockout loss to Antonio Silva at UFC 156 when he faces Travis Browne on Aug. 17 at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston. The former Strikeforce heavyweight titleholder made his UFC debut at UFC 141, defeating Brock Lesnar by technical knockout. He was scheduled to face then-champion Junior dos Santos at UFC 146, but tested positive to elevated levels of testosterone during a pre-licensing drug test by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix champion’s application for a license was put on hold for nine months. He returned at UFC 156 against Silva in a top contender’s bout. Since the loss, Overeem has been focused on improvement. “I’ve just been really focused on my own development. I was recovering from an injury and getting back on track. I made a lot of changes in the camp and the preparation and the whole process,” Overeem said during a media conference call on Monday. “I’ve just been focused on myself and, for me, it’s important to get that win. I put 100-percent effort into that, into my preparation.” Having had two title shots slip away, Overeem’s not sure whether a win over Browne would put him back in the championship hunt. “It’s up to the gentlemen at the UFC to decide what they’re going to do next,” he said. “I’m not really thinking about all that stuff. I’m just focused on my own thing, which is getting back on track, getting the workouts in.” Overeem isn’t looking to what will come next. All of his attention is concentrated on defeating Browne. “I’ve just been focused on my thing. I’m not really focused on what other people think of me, or what’s going to happen after this fight, or who I’ll fight after. I’ve just been focused on my own thing and getting back on track,” he said.

Francis Carmont puts his 10-fight winning streak on the line against top-ten ranked Costa Philippou at UFC 165 in Toronto. Carmont(21-7) has been impressive since his arrival in the UFC, winning five fights in a row. Training out of the Tristar Gym alongside welterweight titleholder Georges St-Pierre , Carmont will be looking to log his first win over a top-ten-ranked opponent. Philippou (12-2, 1 no contest) is riding a five-fight winning streak, including a technical knockout of Tim Boetsch in his last outing at UFC 155 in December. His lone UFC loss came in his promotional debut against Nick Catone at UFC 128. It will be Philippou’s first fight in 2013. He was expected to face Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in May, but an injury forced him out of the bout. UFC 165 takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and features two title bouts. The main event will showcase the UFC light heavyweight title bout between champion Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson . The Ultimate Fighting Championship released the attendance and gate figures for Saturday’s UFC on Fox 8: Johnson vs. Moraga event in Seattle at the post fight press conference. 7,816 spectators went to KeyArena to witness the 12-fight card, resulting in $735,000 in gate revenue. Demetrius Johnson defended his UFC flyweight title by submitting challenger John Moraga in the final round of the main event. Johnson’s speed and ability to get the fight to the ground kept Moraga neutralized throughout the championship bout. In the final round, Johnson secured a takedown and applied an arm bar that forced Moraga to tap out or suffer injury. Rory MacDonald proved his top-three welterweight ranking by defeating Jake Ellenberger by a clear unanimous decision in the co-main event. The night of fights also featured Robbie Lawler adding another highlight reel knockout to his career highlights with a knockout of Bobby Voelker and Liz Carmouche becoming the first female fighter to log two fights in the UFC with her technical knockout win over Germain de Randamie. function not found An injury has forced T.J. Grant (21-5) out of the UFC lightweight title bout with Benson Henderson (19-2) scheduled for August 31. Former WEC lightweight titleholder Anthony Pettis will step in against Henderson on the upcoming pay-per-view fight card. The news was first reported by MMAJunkie.com and later confirmed by UFC president Dana White via Twitter. Grant had earned his title shot with a technical knockout win over Gray Maynard at UFC 160 on May 25. He is currently riding a five-fight winning streak. The nature of his injury is unknown. Pettis (18-6) was scheduled to fight for the featherweight title on August 3, but was forced out of the bout with champion Jose Aldo due to a knee injury. He had previously lobbied for the UFC 164 bout with Henderson because it takes place at the HMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Pettis’ hometown. White initially shot down the possibility, citing Pettis wouldn’t be ready in time. That has apparently changed

Lightweights Jamie Varner and Gleison Tibau Added to Growing UFC 164 Fight Card

A lightweight match-up between former WEC titleholder Jamie Varner and Gleison Tibau has been added to the UFC 164 fight card in Milwaukee. UFC officials announced the bout on Wednesday. Varner (21-7-1) returned to the Octagon at UFC 146 against Edson Barboza after competing outside of the organization for a five-year period. A heavy underdog heading into the fight, Varner defeated Barboza by technical knockout in the first round, logging one of the biggest upsets in 2012. He was defeated in his next fight by Joe Lauzon , but rebounded with a split decision win over Melvin Guillard in his last outing at UFC 155. Tibau (27-9) is a UFC veteran. The fight with Varner will be his twentieth bout in the organization and his third fight in 2013. Tibau is coming off a submission win over John Cholish in his last outing on May 18

Former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight titleholder Sarah Kaufman makes her long awaited UFC debut against Olympic medalist Sara McMann on Aug. 28 on the second UFC on Fox Sports 1 fight card in Indianapolis. UFC Tonight made the fight announcement on Tuesday. Kaufman (16-2) has only been defeated by current UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and women’s featherweight contender Marloes Coenen . She is coming off a split decision win over Leslie Smith at Invicta FC 5 on April 5. McMann (7-0) is undefeated and made her UFC debut at UFC 159 on April 27 with technical knockout win over Sheila Gaff becoming the third female fighter to win inside the famed Octagon. The UFC on FS1 2 card is quickly growing with two more fight announcements being made on Tuesday via Twitter
