Perennial top-ten lightweights Donald Cerrone and Rafael Dos Anjos met in the Octagon Wednesday in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 27 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Cerrone, who has become a fan-friendly scraper of epic proportions during his tenure in the UFC was making his tenth appearance in the Octagon and was looking to add some career momentum after his recent win over K.J. Noons at UFC 160. Dos Anjos was riding a UFC career best four-fight winning streak, and certainly wasn’t interested in seeing “The Cowboy” render all of his previous victories moot

Charles Oliveira vs. Estevan Payan Added To UFC 166 Fight Card in Houston

A featherweight match between Charles Oliveira and Estevan Payan has been added to the UFC 166 fight card slated for Oct. 19 in Houston. Oliveira (16-4-1) debuted in the UFC as an undefeated fighter against Darren Elkins in August 2010, winning by submission. He has gone 4-4-1 during his UFC tenure and is coming off back-to-back losses Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar in his last two outings. Oliveira has faced nothing but top competition since arriving in the organization, but is in desperate need of a victory. Payan (14-4, 1 no contest) made his UFC debut against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 160 on May 25, losing by unanimous decision. He’ll be looking to earn his first UFC win when he faces Oliveira. Jeremy Stephens vs. Rony Jason Agreed to for Unnanounced UFC Fight Night in Brazil

Jeremy Stephens will square off with Rony Jason at an as yet unannounced UFC Fight Night event expected for Oct. 9 in Brazil . MMAWeekly.com sources indicated that verbal agreements are in place for the bout. Stephens (21-9) staved off a pink slip, bouncing back from three consecutive losses, by dropping down to the featherweight division. He won his 145-pound debut by defeating Estevan Payan by unanimous decision at UFC 160 in May. Stephens had spent the previous five years of his UFC tenure bouncing back and forth between wins and losses. He hopes to find new life at featherweight, but faces a difficult next step

George Roop vs. Francisco Rivera Added to UFC 166 Fight Card in Houston

The UFC has added a bantamweight bout between George Roop and Francisco Rivera to the UFC 166 fight card slated for Oct. 19 in Houston. Roop (14-9-1) has been on a tumultuous ride during his UFC tenure, managing a 3-3 record in the Octagon. He has, however, won his last two bouts. After losing back-to-back bouts to Hatsu Hioki and Cub Swanson , Roop rebounded with victories over Reuben Duran and former WEC champion Brian Bowles.

UFC heavyweight Travis Browne agrees to disagree with sometime training partner Tim Kennedy on the issue of fighter pay. “Everybody has a choice,” Browne told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “You don’t have to fight. You don’t have to be in this business, just like if I want to wake up and eat oatmeal instead of cream of wheat, it’s my choice.” Browne (14-1-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC), who next fights Alistair Overeem (36-12 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC on Fox Sports 1 1, chose to walk away from a successful career as a K-9 trainer in San Diego to join the UFC. He’s been a full-time fighter since. The 30-year-old fighter admitted he’s seen lean times during his tenure in the industry-leading promoter and said managers have helped him make ends meet while he pursued his dreams of becoming a champion. “They helped to get me where I’m at now,” he said. Manny Gamburyan vs. Cole Miller Added to UFC on Fox Sports 1 Event in Boston

The first UFC on Fox Sports 1 fight card is hitting the upper limits with its thirteenth bout. A featherweight bout between Manny Gamburyan and Cole Miller was the latest addition. UFC official on Tuesday announced the new bout. Gamburyan (12-7) has had a slow start to his UFC tenure since moving over from the WEC nearly three years ago. During that period, he’s only fought three times, primarily due to various injuries that have forced him out of fights. He lost his first two fights in the Octagon, but finally scored a victory with a unanimous decision over Michihiro Omigawa last August at UFC on Fox 4. Gamburyan was slated to return at last month’s UFC on FX 8, but was again forced out due to injury. He’ll instead head to the Octagon at the UFC on Fox Sports 1 #1 event in August.

Jon Fitch – heading into his World Series of Fighting 3 main event bout on Friday – recently made comments about the “hostile work environment” during his UFC tenure. It’s become the focus of attention leading up to his debut fight for his new promotional home. As is often the case with employment debates, much of the talk has centered on money, but Fitch says that is not his focus. He took time on Monday, however, to explain his UFC finances to counter recent comments from UFC president Dana White that were critical of Fitch’s complaints. White’s comments centered on remuneration.

Welterweight Jon Fitch cut a video today to respond to UFC President Dana White’s angry rebuttal about his tenure with the industry-leader. Responding to White’s assertion that he made $302,000 in discretionary bonuses, Fitch added up his fight purses, saying he was paid a total of $1,022,000 for 18 bouts with the promotion and “about $300,000 in bonuses,” which he said brought his total payout to $1,322,000. “Sounds like a lot of money,” he said. “But let’s look at that a little bit closer. Out of the 18 fights in that fight purse, I paid 20 percent of that to management and the gym. So if you take that number, divide it by seven-and-a-half years, I was making roughly $176,000 a year before management and gym fees.” The onetime welterweight title challenger, who in January signed with the upstart World Series of Fighting promotion after his high-profile UFC release, said he was in the “medium to high pay grade,” but added, “most fighters didn’t make as much money as I did.” Fitch’s take-home figure also leaves out taxes (UFC fighters are paid as independent contractors)
