UFC 234 results: Kyung Ho Kang chokes out Teruto Ishihara after slugfest

After an all-out slugfest for the first couple minutes of the fight, Kyung Ho Kang slowed things down and it paid off for him. Kang (15-8 MMA, 4-2 UFC) was knocked down early by Teruto Ishihara (10-7-2 MMA, 3-5-1 UFC), but recovered to sling fists back and forth. But when Kang got the fight to the canvas, he was able to put Ishihara out with a rear-naked choke at the 3:59 mark of the frame. The bantamweight bout kicked off the ESPN prelims at UFC 234 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. It followed prelims on UFC Fight Pass and preceded the pay-per-view main card.

Teruto Ishihara confirms he’s facing Kyung Ho Kang at UFC 234

Japanese bantamweight Teruto Ishihara has confirmed he’ll face Kyung Ho Kang in Australia. Ishihara (10-6-2 MMA, 3-4-1 UFC) today took to Twitter and said he’ll face Kang (14-8 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC 234, which takes place Sunday, Feb. 10, at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Due to the time change, the card airs in North America on Feb. 9.

The bantamweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 132 event at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. The entire card streamed on UFC Fight Pass. The fight was over at the 3:28 mark of the opening frame after Ishihara hit the deck a second time, his body more slack than his first trip. UFC 221 results: Jose Quinonez wins fourth straight with unanimous nod over Teruto Ishihara

Jose Quinonez had a solid early start against Teruto Ishihara , then got caught a couple times. But those weren’t enough for Ishihara to steal the fight. Quinonez (7-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Ishihara (10-5-2 MMA, 3-3-1 UFC), who was returning to 135 pounds after a stint at featherweight. Quinonez took a pair of 29-28 scores and a 30-27, which was a perhaps a bit of a surprising tally. The bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 221 event at Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia

The fight card for the UFC’s return to Australia in February continues to build with the addition of a bantamweight fight. Teruto Ishihara (10-4-2 MMA, 3-2-1 UFC) will return to 135 pounds to take on Jose Quinonez (6-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at UFC 221. UFC officials recently announced the new booking. UFC 221 takes place Feb. 10 at Perth Arena in Australia and marks the UFC’s debut in Western Australia.

Ishihara (10-4-2 MMA, 3-2-1 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Dy (8-6-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan. The win came in part because Dy lost a point in the third round for a third low blow . Absent that point deduction, the fight would’ve been a majority draw. But after the win, Ishihara said he won’t hold ill will – even though the third kick to the groin hurt him badly
