UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum wants to wait for the winner of champion Cain Velasquez and former titleholder Junior dos Santos . UFC Tonight recently reported the 36-year-old’s desire to wait for a title shot. Werdum (17-5-1) has won his three fights in the UFC since returning to the organization in February 2012, defeating Roy Nelson , Mike Russow and former champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira . The Brazilian also has notable wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Alistair Overeem . Werdum last competed on June 8, and expects to be back in action in February or March, but has no problems waiting a bit longer for a title shot. Velasquez and dos Santos fight for a third time at UFC 166 on Oct. 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston. They split their two previous meetings

World Series of Fighting’s first-ever four-man tournament kicks off Sept. 14 with a pair of middleweight match-ups, as David Branch (12-3) meets Danillo “Indio” Villefort (14-4) and Elvis “The King” Mutapcic (13-2) faces Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (26-9) at World Series of Fighting 5: Johnson vs. Kyle . Both bouts are scheduled for the NBC Sports Network-televised main card of World Series of Fighting 5, which takes place at Revel Casino Hotel’s Ovation Hall in Atlantic City. The winners will meet on a future World Series of Fighting card to claim the tournament crown and establish themselves as the company’s No. 1 contender at 185 pounds. A light heavyweight slugfest between knockout artist Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (15-4) and slugger Mike “MAK” Kyle (20-9-1) serves as the evening’s main event. Uriah Hall Hoping Third Time is a Charm; Josh Samman Out, He Now Faces John Howard

Third time is a charm, or so Uriah Hall hopes. The Ultimate Fighter 17 runner-up on Wednesday had his second opponent fall out of his scheduled UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen bout slated for Aug. 17 in Boston. Hall was originally slated to face Nick Ring, but had his opponent switched to Josh Samman when Ring fell off the card due to an issue with his social security number. Samman has now had to withdraw from the fight card due to injury. UFC officials have now re-signed John “Doomsday” Howard

Anderson Silva and Jon Jones Nominated for Best Fighter ESPY; Can Either Beat Floyd Mayweather?

UFC champions Anderson Silva and Jon Jones have been nominated for ESPN’s prestigious ESPY Award for “Best Fighter” for the second consecutive year. But can either of them edge out last year’s winner, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. , who is also nominated again this year? Rounding out the 2013 nominees are Mayweather’s fellow boxers Danny Garcia and Canelo Alvarez. This is the third time each for Silva and Jones to be nominated for the award. Jones has been nominated three years in a row, while Silva was nominated for the award in 2009, 2012, and 2013. Silva (33-4) has not lost in the Octagon since making his UFC debut in 2006. He has won 16 consecutive UFC bouts, has held the middleweight championship since late 2006, and set numerous other records.
