LAS VEGAS – Ticket sale problems? What ticket sale problems? Despite apparent rumors to the contrary earlier this week, sales for Saturday’s UFC 162 event in Las Vegas appear to be just fine. UFC President Dana White on Thursday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the pay-per-view event has sold 12,400 tickets so far for a $4.26 million gate. The numbers are early, of course, and will be updated with preliminary totals following Saturday’s event, then made official by the Nevada State Athletic Commission likely sometime next week. UFC 162 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and features a middleweight title fight between pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) and Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC). The UFC’s most recent fight at MGM Grand Garden took place in May for UFC 160

There had been rumors this week of UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman being a dud, at least on the ticket sales front. UFC president Dana White on Thursday, at the UFC 162 pre-fight press conference, squashed those rumors. The early rumor was that UFC 162, which takes place on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, had sold only 25-percent of the available seats for the event.

If there is concern over the UFC being able to move forward with its Boston card with the same lineup that has been advertised, fans can perhaps breathe a little easier. The UFC today went ahead as planned with ticket sales for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which is slated for Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. The promotion issued a press release for ticket sales, which start on Thursday for the general public, but went on sale to UFC Fight Club members earlier today. As reported earlier today, a story surfaced in the Boston Herald that said some fights on the show could be in jeopardy due to a Massachsetts law that keeps fighters born outside the country from competing without a U.S. Social Security number
