ONE Championship will be on TNT this spring, beginning with the returns of a pair of former UFC champions. The promotion has announced that it will hold a “ONE on TNT” series, which will feature events every Wednesday for four consecutive weeks beginning April 7. Each event will feature prelims streamed on B/R Live at 9 p.m. ET, with a three-fight main card beginning at 10 p.m.

Even though he lost his highly publicized promotional debut, Eddie Alvarez is back in the lightweight tournament at ONE Championship 99. Alvarez (29-7) was booked for a fight against former champion Eduard Folayang (21-7), and now that fight will be one of two semifinals in the tournament since Timofey Nastyukhin (13-4) had to pull out with an injury, the promotion announced Monday. Nastyukhin knocked out Alvarez in March in an opening-round tournament fight to advance to the semifinals. Three of the four semifinalists are replacements for fighters who won in the opening round, but are injured. Amir Khan lost to Ariel Sexton, but replaced Sexton in the final four due to an injury. Folayang is in for Lowen Tynanes

In late 2018, former UFC and Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez made big news when it was announced he had signed with Asian MMA powerhouse ONE Championship. Alvarez was put right into the mix in the promotion’s lightweight grand prix, and most expectations were that he probably would wind up the champion in short order. But in his debut Sunday, Timofey Nastyukhin shattered that dream when he took out Alvarez with a first-round TKO at “ONE Championship 92: A New Era” in Tokyo. It’s been less than three years since Alvarez won the UFC’s 155-pound title in just his fourth fight with the promotion. But since then, he is 1-3 with a no-contest, and all three losses are by knockout. So what does the loss mean for Alvarez’s immediate future

Nastyukhin (13-4) upset highly touted free agent signing Eddie Alvarez (29-7) in the lightweight grand prix tournament, which was Alvarez’s debut with the promotion at “ONE Championship 92: A New Era.” Nastyukhin finished Alvarez with 55 seconds left in the opening round with a big TKO after dropping him earlier in the round with a right hand. Nastyukhin moved on to a semifinal bout against Lowen Tynanes in the tournament. Alvarez signed with ONE in 2018 after leaving the UFC. The American is a former Bellator and UFC lightweight champion and was hoping to add a third major promotion’s title to his resume.
