A historic fight is featured in the main event. Timothy Johnson went from almost having to call it a career to fighting for the Bellator title. Johnson (15-6 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) meets Valentin Moldavsky for the interim heavyweight title in the Bellator 261 main event on Showtime on June 25 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. But Johnson’s road to the title wasn’t an easy one. The ex-UFC fighter got off to a concerning start to his Bellator career when he was knocked out in back-to-back bouts against Cheick Kongo and Vitaly Minakov. With his back against the wall, Johnson was matched up with unbeaten prospect Tyrell Fortune and was a big underdog heading into the fight

One fight removed from losing his 205-pound title to Vadim Nemkov at Bellator 244 in August, Bader (27-6 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) will return to action Friday at Bellator 256 against Lyoto Machida. It’s not the weight class most people, including Bader, expected he’d compete in next, but Bellator needed him

Timothy Johnson doesn’t foresee Bellator making any firm plans for the heavyweight division until champion Ryan Bader gets through his next fight. Bader (27-6 MMA, 5-1 BMMA), who hasn’t defended the Bellator heavyweight belt since September 2019, is currently preparing to be part of the eight-man light heavyweight grand prix, and is scheduled for an opening-round bout with Lyoto Machida at Bellator 257 on April 9. If Bader loses that bout, he’s said he will immediately return to heavyweight for a title defense

After notching his third straight win, Timothy Johnson wants a shot at the Bellator heavyweight title. Johnson (15-6 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) avenged his loss to Cheick Kongo in the main event of Bellator Europe 10 on Saturday, edging out the hometown fighter by split decision at Accor Arena in Paris, France. Johnson prevailed as an underdog once again and thinks his upset wins over the formerly unbeaten Tyrell Fortune and UFC veterans Matt Mitrione and Kong are enough to warrant a title shot against heavyweight champion Ryan Bader (27-6 MMA, 5-1 BMMA). Speaking to reporters after his win in France, Johnson explained that, while he’s targeting a return in early 2021, he’d be willing to answer the call for a title shot at any time.
