UFC light heavyweight Phil Davis hopes to finish former titleholder Lyoto Machida at UFC 163 and move next in line to fight for the 205-pound championship. Davis (11-1, 1 no contest) is ranked seventh in the official UFC Fighter Rankings . Machida (19-3) is considered the top contender in the division. A win over the former champion would shoot Davis up the rankings, but he doesn’t put much stock in fighter rankings. “I don’t really know where I fit in the whole title contention picture. I don’t really go by the rankings. I looked at the rankings once. I was disappointed, so I never looked at them again, and I just kind of go fight by fight,” said Davis during a recent media conference call. “I won my last fight. I really want to get a finish

Ivan Menjivar Faces “Kid” Yamamoto at UFC 165

A bantamweight bout between Ivan Menjivar and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto has been added to the UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson fight card slated for Sept. 21 in Toronto. Menjivar (25-10) has competed as heavy as welterweight. He competed in the UFC as a lightweight in 2004. “The Pride of El Salvador” returned to the UFC in 2011 as a bantamweight and has gone 4-2 in the organization at 135 pounds. Menjivar is coming off a loss to former featherweight titleholder Urijah Faber at UFC 157 on Feb. 23 in his last outing and hopes to get put a “w” in the win column against Yamamoto and work his way back into title contention

Dan Henderson is Focused on Rashad Evans, but Unfinished Business with Jon Jones Lingers

UFC light heavyweight Dan Henderson is focused on his June 15 main event bout with former light heavyweight titleholder Rashad Evans at UFC 161, but he still wants the fight that didn’t get to happen with champion Jon Jones . Henderson and Jones were scheduled to meet in the UFC 151 main event on Sept. 1, 2012, but a knee injury forced Henderson out of the fight and eventually led to the cancellation of the event. Jones instead faced Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 and Henderson’s title shot dematerialized. The 42-year-old returned at UFC 157, losing to Lyoto Machida by split decision in an uneventful fight. The loss removed Henderson from title contention, but the thought of facing Jones remains. “Obviously that’s something that was supposed to happen last year and didn’t.
