ONE Championship bantamweight contender Troy Worthen has always been confident of his abilities inside the cage, but following his switch from Singapore’s Evolve MMA gym to Sanford MMA in Florida, that confidence has gone up a level. The American returns to action Friday when he faces fellow contender Yusup Saadulaev at “ONE Championship 124: Collision Course,” which takes place at Singapore Indoor Stadium. Ahead of the bout, Worthen (7-0) took part in a virtual media day session with ONE Championship’s Gianni Subba, where he discussed his change in camps, his upcoming matchup with Saadulaev, and his assessment of the past year after a turbulent, but ultimately successful, year for the 27-year-old.

American bantamweight Troy Worthen has his sights set on a shot at ONE bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes, and the undefeated 26-year-old moved one step closer to that goal with a dominant decision victory at “ONE Championship 109: King of the Jungle” on Feb. 28. Worthen (7-0) defeated heavy-handed Kiwi Mark Abelardo at Singapore Indoor Stadium in their preliminary card matchup as he extended his perfect professional record with a controlled performance of wrestling dominance. Worthen mixed up his takedowns with sharp striking as he dropped Abelardo (19-7) with a left high kick. Then, after the Kiwi bounced back to his feet, he picked him up and slammed him down to the mat. Undefeated American Troy Worthen has his sights set on ONE bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes, and hopes he can take another big step toward a title shot with victory at “ONE Championship 109: King of the Jungle.” Worthen (6-0 MMA) takes on heavy-handed New Zealander Mark Abelardo at Singapore Indoor Stadium on Feb. 28, in a bout that, on paper, looks like a classic striker-vs.-grappler matchup. “He’s definitely a striker, we all know that, so that’s definitely what he wants to do,” he said.
