Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Stefan Struve Not Happening Any Time Soon, Big Nog Sidelined for 3 Months

There has been a minor war of words brewing between UFC heavyweights Stefan Struve and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira , leading many to believe that a fight was imminent. They won’t be fighting anytime soon, however, as Big Nog’s manager, Ed Soares, recently told MMAFighting.com that the former UFC and Pride champion wouldn’t return to training for at least three months following surgery. Nogueira had to undergo surgery after an MRI revealed extensive ligament damage in his left elbow stemming from an armbar submission loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC on Fuel TV 10 on June 8 in Brazil. Nogueira also required surgery following a Kimura submission loss to Frank Mir in late 2011. That surgery required 16 screws in his humerus, but Nogueira still managed to return to the Octagon 10 months later to defeat Dave Herman.

UFC officials on Monday added two middleweight bouts to the UFC 164 fight card. Derek Brunson squares off with Yoel Romero, while Magnus Cedenblad faces Jared Hamman. UFC 164 features lightweight champion Benson Henderson putting his belt on the line against TJ Grant in the main event on pay-per-view. The event is slated for Aug. 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Brunson (10-2) was rebooked for UFC 164 after his UFC on Fuel TV 10 bout with Ronny Markes was cancelled on the day of weigh-ins. Markes was pulled from the fight after being involved in a car accident. Brunson is one of the fighters that moved over to the UFC when Strikeforce closed up shop.

Every UFC on Fuel TV 10 Fighter Returned Clean Drug Test Results

The Brazilian Athletic Commission (CABMMA) announced on Friday that all fighters tested on the UFC on Fuel TV 10 fight card that took place on June 8 at the Ginásio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Brazil, returned negative test results for illegal drugs, performance enhancing drugs, stimulants and masking agents. Every fighter on the card submitted pre-fight urine samples. Four randomly chosen fighters submitted post-fight urine samples, as well as main event fighters Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum . Werdum defeated Nogueira in the featured attraction by submission. Leonardo Santos became the second The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil winner by submitting William Macario in the co-main event. The card set the record for number of submission finishes on a single UFC event with eight. The previous record was six.

All 26 competitors who underwent drug testing at UFC on FUEL TV 10 this past weekend successfully passed their tests. The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (Brazilian Athletic Commission) today confirmed the results with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). UFC on FUEL TV 10 took place June 8 at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. The main card, which saw Fabricio Werdum submit fellow heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira , aired on FUEL TV following Facebook prelims. According to the CABMMA, all 26 of the event’s fighters underwent pre-fight urine tests. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to Undergo Surgery Following Armbar Loss to Fabricio Werdum

Former Pride and interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is once again going under the knife. Nogueira reportedly suffered ligament damage resulting from an armbar submission loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC on Fuel TV 10. Tatame.com confirmed and reported the injury and pending surgery. An MRI revealed extensive ligament damage in his left elbow that will require Nogueira to undergo surgery on Friday. UFC on Fuel TV 10 Delivers Record Prime Time TV Ratings to the Network

UFC on Fuel TV 10: Nogueira vs. Werdum on Saturday, June 8, gave Fuel TV its most watched prime time block ever, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The prime time block, which consisted of the one-hour live Prefight Show and the three-hour main card, averaged 250,000 total viewers. Fuel TV officials noted that number represents a nearly 500-percent increase over the June 2012 average for Saturday night prime time blocks. The UFC on Fuel TV 10 live event by itself averaged 313,000 viewers, making it the second most-watched live fight event on the network. Only UFC on Fuel TV 8: Silva vs. Stann had a larger audience, drawing 485,000 viewers

Seems as though whatever brand of magic it is that flows through Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ‘s veins when he fights in Brazil doesn’t work on fellow Brazilians. Or, since our sample size is still too small to draw any firm conclusions, maybe it just doesn’t work on Fabricio Werdum . If you’re one of those people who can barely be troubled to watch “The Ultimate Fighter” when it’s in English (*discreetly raises hand*), and so spent the better part of the past year wondering if Werdum had renounced professional violence and gone off to live in a monastery, consider Saturday night’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 main event your reminder. “Vai Cavalo” is still here, and he’s still pretty damned good. The question is, how good? Because I’m not sure his win over Nogueira gave us much of an answer. That’s not a knock on “Big Nog.” He might sometimes walk like the Tin Man when he’s outside the cage, but once his foot hits that mat he’s still a dangerous fighter with plenty of tricks up his sleeve
