CageSport Champion Anthony Hamilton Ready to Stand Throw Down with Anyone

Following back-to-back wins to close out 2012, CageSport heavyweight champion Anthony Hamilton started off this year with his third win in a row by getting a 90-second arm bar submission of Will Courchaine at Rumble on the Ridge 27 in March. “I’ve been trying to stay more active, but that’s been tougher as I’ve moved up the ranks, so it was good to start 2013 with a win,” said Hamilton. “(The fight) didn’t last too long, so I didn’t take any injuries, and it’s always good to get in and out of there in a good fashion, so I was pretty happy about it.” The fight not only raised Hamilton’s winning streak to three in a row, it was also his third straight fight finishing a bout in less than two minutes. When asked if he feels he can gauge where he’s at with such quick performances or if he has to do that during training, Hamilton replied, “I train a lot down at Jackson’s in New Mexico, so it’s always a good gauge to see where you’re at training with guys like Jon Jones, Travis Browne, Frank Mir and guys like that.

With UFC 163 win, Amanda Nunes focused on title but open to Alexis Davis rematch

Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate may not have the only rivalry in the UFC’s burgeoning women’s bantamweight division. With a successful promotional debut at Saturday’s UFC 163 event in her native Brazil, Amanda Nunes said her sights are set solely on a title fight. But before she gets there, she’s opening to settling some unfinished business. In an FX-televised preliminary-card bout at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena, Nunes (8-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) needed a little more than two minutes to fight off a rear-naked-choke attempt and score a TKO victory over Sheila Gaff (10-6-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC). Nunes said everything surprisingly went to plan. “I think (with) Sheila’s game, I think everyone who watched Sheila fight knows she’s very aggressive,” Nunes said after the bout. “But today was different. UFC on FOX 8 results/photos: Ed Herman outstrikes Trevor Smith for split call

SEATTLE – It took a little over two minutes for Ed Herman and Trevor Smith to forget everything they’d learned about defense and settle for trying to decapitate each other with one haymaker after another. It mostly stayed that way for the next 13 minutes, until the final horn blew and Herman was declared the winner via split decision (27-30, 30-27, 29-28). The middleweight bout was part of today’s UFC on FOX 8 event at KeyArena in Seattle. It aired on FX following additional prelims on Facebook and ahead of a main card on FOX.

King of the Cage Champ Wes Combs Just Following the Blueprint Laid Out Before Him

It took just over a minute for King of the Cage cruiserweight champion Wes “Soldier” Combs to successfully defend his title at KOTC: World Championships on May 25, raising his winning streak to four fights in a row. Following the game plan set up for him by coach Rob Nickerson of Reaction MMA, Combs knocked out Esteves Jones and finished his third fight out of four in fewer than two minutes. “My coach planned it all out and he told me to stick to the game plan, trust it, and that’s exactly what I did and I knocked him out,” said Combs. “The game plan was basically to go forward and throw the right hand. He liked to throw a lot of hooks, so I just had to beat him to the punch. So when he kept doing it, I stuck the game plan and dropped the right hand every time I saw him flinch and landed it on the button.” Ever since Combs relocated back to Kentucky and began working with Nickerson, he feels he’s peaking all over again. “I feel like the best I’ve felt in years,” said Combs
