The banned substance UFC women’s bantamweight Jessica Eye tested positive for in the wake of UFC 166 was marijuana, according to an order from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation obtained by FOXSports.com . Eye, who earned a split-decision over Sarah Kaufman at the Oct. 19 pay-per-view event, specifically tested positive for cannabinoids, according to the order, which changed the result of the fight to a no-decision and handed the 27-year-old fighter a yearlong “probated suspension” and $1,875 in fines, payable in eight installments. Jessica Eye, UFC release official statements on fighter’s UFC 166 no-decision

In the wake of a failed drug test following her UFC debut, the UFC and Jessica Eye have released statements regarding the matter. Eye’s split decision win over Sarah Kaufman at UFC 166 in Houston this past October recently was changed to a no-decision by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Officials did not reveal what substance Eye tested positive for. But on Jan. 22, the TDLR said Eye “tested positive for a prohibited drug,” was fined $1,875 and placed on a “one year fully probated suspension.” “The UFC received word of the fully probated suspension and fine issued to Jessica Eye by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation,” the UFC’s official statement reads. “The UFC intends to honor the probation, which will not force Eye to miss her scheduled bout at UFC 170.” Eye (10-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who earlier this week told MMAjunkie she intends to dispute the findings, will fight Alexis Davis (15-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at UFC 170 on Feb.

Eye notched a narrow split-decision win over former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman at UFC 166 in Houston in October. Josh Thomson is plenty familiar with Gilbert Melendez . In Strikeforce, Thomson and Melendez fought three times for the lightweight title – each fight going all five rounds. If you want to get all mathematical about it, Thomson has spent more than 25 percent of his career in a cage with Melendez, and given he’s got 26 fights in a career spanning more than 13 years, that’s a staggering number. So it stands to reason that Thomson would have some interest in seeing his old foe – Melendez won the trilogy, going 2-1 with wins in 2009 and 2012 – square off against fellow scrapper Diego Sanchez .

Trainer: Shoulder surgery still a possibility for champ Cain Velasquez

Another doctor’s visit should be the final word on whether or not UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez needs shoulder surgery. Velasquez’s longtime trainer, Bob Cook, today told MMAjunkie that the fighter would like to avoid an invasive procedure but will do what’s necessary to fully rehabilitate his shoulder. “He’s going in to get re-evaluated in a week-and-a-half, and at that point, we’ll have a better idea,” Cook said
