BERLIN – While mostly staying away from reporters gathered at a crossfit gym for UFC Fight Night 41, Georges St-Pierre gave a small update about the goings-on in his life. First, St-Pierre, who was in Berlin in support of teammate and Saturday combatant Francis Carmont, is still healing from a second torn ACL. He did not give a timetable for when he would be fully cleared to train, but was hopeful about the outcome. “I had the same procedure on my right knee, and my leg came back stronger,” he said. “I will have two good knees, so it will be a good thing.” In the meantime, the former welterweight champ is watching the sport from a distance, including the sudden race near the top between a handful of standout welterweights.

Georges St-Pierre said his decision to take time away from the sport was as much a statement about his personal beliefs as a response to personal issues. The former welterweight champ, who vacated the belt this past month, told a group of Canadian reporters that one of the reasons he left was to protest the UFC’s attitude on drug testing. “It’s one of the reasons why I stopped,” St-Pierre told RDS.ca . “Not really to [teach] them a lesson, because it penalizes me, too. But I wanted to do something for the sport that I love. I see the direction in which it goes, and I think it makes no sense.

With Georges St-Pierre on hiatus from MMA, Johny Hendricks aims to bring stability to the UFC’s welterweight division. “I saw a lot of people saying that the welterweight class is undetermined the next year because there’s so many great fighters,” Hendricks, 30, told USA TODAY Sports. “Hopefully, I can stop that.” First, Hendricks (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) needs to win the belt, and following St-Pierre’s decision to step away to resolve personal issues, the former wrestling champ will get another shot when he meets Robbie Lawler (22-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) this spring for the vacant 170-pound title. Nearly one month after falling short to St-Pierre at UFC 167 by controversial split decision, Hendricks was on vacation at Walt Disney World when he got the call to headline the UFC 171 pay-per-view show on March 15 in Dallas. Lawler, a former EliteXC champ, is on a three-fight winning streak since returning to the UFC after a hiatus of more than eight years.

SACRAMENTO – UFC President Dana White said Georges St-Pierre’s recollection of his attendance at the post-UFC 167 press conference is not entirely accurate. “A little bit was lost in translation there when Georges was telling that story,” White said following Saturday’s UFC on FOX 9, which took place at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. While announcing his decision to vacate the welterweight belt during a media teleconference this past Friday, St-Pierre (25-2 MMA, 19-2 UFC), claimed PR officials from the UFC had attempted to keep him out of the presser for the Nov. 16 pay-per-view event at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

UFC 167 officially draws 14,856 attendance for $5.759 million live gate

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer on Friday released the figures to MMAjunkie. Officials initially announced an estimated attendance of 14,856 for a live gate of $5.7 million.

UFC 167 drug tests come back clean for all fighters on card

The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Friday announced that drug tests were performed for all fighters at UFC 167, and the results came back negative. The NSAC released the results for the event to MMAjunkie. UFC 167 took place this past Saturday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event’s main card aired live on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie
