MMA has its latest performance-enhancing drug suspension in the form of a recent title challenger. Ali Bagautinov (13-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) prior to his UFC 174 flyweight title fight against champion Demetrious Johnson (20-2-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC), the British Columbia Athletic Commission on Thursday announced. UFC light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux said he isn’t in the business of hurting people. But when it comes to a fight, he has been trained to fight until the referee tells him to stop. While some online MMA observers criticized Saint Preux for torquing Ryan Jimmo ‘s arm as he yelled out that his arm was broken, the recently victorious fighter is adamant he did nothing wrong. “I did my job as a fighter,” Saint Preux on Monday told MMAjunkie Radio. “The ref is there to protect us, but at the same time, all I heard was, ‘broken.’ “If (Jimmo) said his arm was broken, my coach probably would have wanted me to do it, but knowing me, I probably would have stopped

With a convincing win against a fellow contender, did Rory MacDonald do enough to cut the line and get the next UFC welterweight title shot? Heading into Saturday’s UFC 174 pay-per-view co-headliner in Vancouver, MacDonald (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) and opponent Tyron Woodley (13-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) were told they were second in the queue. Up first, UFC President Dana White said, would be the winner of next month’s UFC on FOX 12 headliner between Matt Brown (19-11 MMA, 12-5 UFC) and Robbie Lawler (23-10 MMA, 8-4 UFC)

Ryan Jimmo wasn’t joking when he announced during Saturday’s UFC 174 event that his right arm was broken. In fact, it was a clean break, the UFC light heavyweight confirmed on social media. Facing Ovince Saint Preux (15-5 MMA, 4-0 UFC) in a pay-per-view main-card bout at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, Jimmo (19-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) escaped the mount and back-mount positions in the second round but further injured his arm in a subsequent scramble. As the pain mounted and Saint Preux looked to isolate his opponent’s left (non-broken) arm, Jimmo alerted referee Kevin Dornan of the broken right arm . The bout was then waved off.

Following Tyron Woodley ‘s loss to fellow contender Rory MacDonald this past weekend at UFC 174, UFC President Dana White offered a rather blunt assessment of his performance. Although the fight was expected to be one of the night’s most competitive – and though the betting public made it a virtual dead heat heading into Saturday’s pay-per-view co-headliner – Woodley was shut down for three rounds and suffered a unanimous-decision loss via 30-27 scores (watch the MacDonald vs. Woodley video highlights )
