UFC 184, UFC 185 drug tests clean; second test clears undisclosed fighter

Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano No failed drug tests resulted from UFC 184 and UFC 185, according to the event’s overseeing athletic commissions. Although one male fighter from UFC 184 was under suspicion as the result of an initial test, a subsequent confirmatory test cleared him of any banned substances, California State Athletic Commission Executive Director Andy Foster today told MMAjunkie. Foster declined to give the fighter’s name while citing state medical privacy laws. “I am very pleased that UCLA’s Olympic Analytical Laboratory has reported the drug testing results have all come back clean,” Foster wrote in a prepared statement

Joanna Jedrzejczyk on UFC title win: ‘I did what I said, and I’m happy’

Joanna Jedrzejczyk Not too many people were giving Joanna Jedrzejczyk a shot to beat Carla Esparza just one week ago. Jedrzejcyk (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) shut up the doubters on Saturday, dominating Esparza (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and finishing her with strikes in the second round. With the victory came the title of UFC women’s strawweight champion. “I did what I said, and I’m happy,” Jedrzejczyk told MMAjunkie Radio. A big key to her success was the ability to fend off the takedown attempts from Esparza. Jedrzejczyk knew that the grappling was an area where few felt that she could compete with Esparza, a woman known for her tenacious wrestling game. “I was working for this,” Jedrzejczyk said.

Former UFC heavyweight and “The Ultimate Fighter 10″ veteran Justin Wren was getting married in Texas, and Copeland was along for the ride as his best man. Of course, the two couldn’t resist some training in between the festivities, so Wren reached out to Team Takedown, the facility at which Rosholt trains in Arlington, Texas. Copeland showed up and trained hard.

Dariush (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) managed to win the striking battle with Cruickshank (16-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC) before submitting him with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their fight this past Saturday, which aired on the FX preliminary card portion of the event at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The night’s main event saw Dariush’s teammate, Rafael dos Anjos, walk away as the newly crowned UFC lightweight champion. Dariush said the two of them getting to spend time together preparing for fights brings out the best in both. “Let me tell you, man,” Dariush told MMAjunkie Radio.

UFC 185 medical suspensions: Ryan Benoit gets indefinite suspension, but not for foul

Ryan Benoit Five fighters were suspended indefinitely following this past Saturday’s UFC 185, including flyweight Ryan Benoit , who courted controversy when he kicked Sergio Pettis after a knockout victory. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which recently released medical suspensions arising from the event, confirmed that the suspension was not related to Benoit’s foul, for which he apologized after the fight. “The Pettis camp did not wish to file a complaint with the Department against Mr. Benoit,” TDLR Public Information Officer Susan Stanford wrote MMAjunkie in an email.
