Before his second consecutive headlining bout at UFC Fight Night 127, watch Fabricio Werdum become the undisputed heavyweight champion with a submission win over Cain Velasquez . The title-unifying bout between Werdum (23-7-1 MMA, 11-4 UFC) and Velasquez (14-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) served as the headliner for UFC 188, which took place June 13, 2015, at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. Werdum earned his shot at Velasquez after claiming the interim title with a TKO win over Mark Hunt at UFC 180, which originally was to serve as the date for Velasquez-Werdum until Velasquez withdrew with a knee injury. Velasquez claimed UFC heavyweight gold for the second time in December 2012 and defended the belt twice before facing Werdum

Augusto Montano fails UFC 188 drug test after loss to Pendred, suspended one year

Augusto Montano Augusto Montano took a bit of criticism after his unanimous decision loss to Cathal Pendred in June. The latest news around him won’t help any. Montana (15-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has been suspended for a year by the UFC following a failed drug test in the wake of UFC 188, which took place in his home country of Mexico. According to the UFC, “Dodger” tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites. “The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes,” the UFC said in a statement

Gilbert Melendez Just nine days’ prior to his scheduled bout with Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 71, former two-time UFC title challenger Gilbert Melendez received news that he’d tested positive for banned substances following his loss to Eddie Alvarez this past month. Melendez (22-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) dropped a split decision to Alvarez at UFC 188 on June 13 in Mexico City. He opted to make a quick turnaround to fight Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 71, but with the event just days away, his drug test results came back from the previous bout. The former Strikeforce champion testing positive came as a surprising twist.

Gilbert Melendez Gilbert Melendez dropped a decision in his UFC 188 bout with Eddie Alvarez , but his real issues are only just beginning as it was announced today Melendez failed hisJune 13 post-fight drug test. Melendez (22-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) failed his test for what the UFC called “exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites,” meaning testosterone metabolites that were present from an outside source. “Regrettably, I tested positive in my post fight urine sample for UFC 188,” Melendez said in a statement posted on the UFC website . “I did not inject anything, but I am responsible and accept the consequences for the results. I will make sure I am better educated about the products I use and their implications. Going forward I will ensure no products I use will contain banned substances
