Mauricio Rua has been on a bit of a career resurgence the past three years, and he’ll try to continue it this Sunday. “Shogun” has won three straight fights for his longest winning streak since a four-fight run in 2006-2007 in PRIDE. He’ll also be fighting outside of his native Brazil for the first time since 2013 after five straight home bouts. Rua (25-10 MMA, 9-8 UFC) on Sunday takes on short-notice replacement Anthony Smith (28-13 MMA, 5-3 UFC) in a light heavyweight main event at UFC Fight Night 134 at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

He came into the fight riding a seven-fight winning streak, hadn’t lost in almost two years, and was feeling pretty confident about his chances against the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist. “I felt great, honestly,” Magny told MMAjunkie. “I had a great training camp, felt like my coaches had brought in the guys I needed to train with, all that. But then getting in there and experiencing his pressure I realized, wow, this guy is on another level.” Maia (22-6 MMA, 16-6 UFC) dominated Magny (17-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) on the mat in the first round, then submitted him with a rear-naked choke in the second , snapping a streak that had at one point seen Magny tie the record for most UFC wins in one calendar year

It was late on that night in Brazil. The media and her entourage were waiting. And Rousey was captive for at least 20 minutes.

‘UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia’ drug tests come back clean

All fighters who underwent drug testing earlier this month at UFC 190 in Brazil passed the tests. Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA), MMA’s regulatory body in Brazil, today emailed the results to MMAjunkie. UFC 190 took place Aug. 1 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Demian Maia has ‘goal’ to earn most submission wins in UFC history

Maia (21-6 MMA, 15-6 UFC) has been one of the sport’s great submission threats since he joined the UFC roster in October 2007. He earned his first five UFC wins by submission and is still the only fighter in modern history to force five consecutive opponents to tap out. Over the years his high-level opponents have become privy to Maia’s tactics, and the rate of submission victories has slowed.
