Yet, that’s exactly what happened when Cristiane Justino made her promotional debut at UFC 195 against Leslie Smith . Justino (16-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has long been queen of the women’s featherweight division. Unfortunately, the UFC maxes out at women’s bantamweight, a full 10 pounds lower than Justino’s division. The UFC brought the Invicta FC champ in for a 140-pound catchweight bout with Smith (8-7-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC) and Justino showed exactly why she has been one of the can’t-miss women in the sport.

USADA hands Diego Brandao 9-month suspension following UFC release

Diego Brandao UFC anti-doping partner USADA announced today that former UFC featherweight Diego Brandao has accepted a nine-month suspension for testing positive for a marijuana metabolite following a failed in-competition test at UFC 195. Brandao’s suspension is retroactive to Jan. 2, the date on which he competed at the pay-per-view event, though he can reduce his term by one month if he completes an “anti-doping educational program,” per a release today from USADA, which conducts results management for the UFC’s drug testing program. But USADA added the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 14” could face additional punishment. “Further, Brandao’s positive test also falls under the jurisdiction of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who may impose additional sanctions, including fines or a period of ineligibility that is longer than the period set forth above,” USADA’s release stated. Related: Police report details Diego Brandao’s alleged strip club incident, arrest Brandao (20-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC) was submitted by Brian Ortega (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on the pay-per-view main card of UFC 195 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, marking his third loss in five fights.
