Conor McGregor has had a host of thrilling matchups inside the UFC octagon during the course of his career, but none were more exciting than his rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August 2016. Diaz stunned the Dubliner in their first meeting at UFC 196 when he rocked the Irishman, then took advantage of an ill-advised takedown attempt to gain top position and smash him with strikes before locking up a rear-naked choke for the win. McGregor’s response to his first UFC loss impressed everyone backstage at MGM Grand Garden Arena that night. He showed up to the post-fight press conference, admitted his mistakes – “I was inefficient with my energy tonight” – and vowed to return a better fighter. Not for the first time, he made good on his promise. The rematch was booked for UFC 202, with McGregor insisting that the bout be contested once again at welterweight

All eyes were on Conor McGregor ’s social media feeds on Saturday night after Nate Diaz returned to action and dispatched Anthony Pettis at UFC 241. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, after all, has chimed in on nearly every UFC main event this year which produced a potential next opponent. This time, however, McGregor was mum on fight night.

One MMA fan now has quite the way to remember UFC 202 and the rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz . On Aug. 20, 2016, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, then-featherweight champion McGregor narrowly edge Diaz via majority decision in a non-title welterweight bout. McGregor avenged a submission loss to Diaz from earlier in the year, and it ultimately set up a move to lightweight, where McGregor beat Eddie Alvarez to claim the 155-pound title. UFC 202, which had the two rivals on the top of the bill, is also reported to have done 1.6 million pay-per-view buys – a UFC record.

LAS VEGAS – The Nevada State Athletic Commission today reduced Nate Diaz ’s fine and suspension stemming from his UFC 202 press conference melee with Conor McGregor , ordering him to pay a $15,000 fine and complete 15 hours community service. During a meeting today in Las Vegas, the commission voted unanimously to amend a settlement agreement with Diaz, in line with a reduction given to McGregor after a re-hearing this past month on the UFC lightweight champ’s case. Previously, Diaz was fined $50,000 and given 50 hours community service for his role in a melee that resulted in water bottles and energy drinks being thrown between the fighters at a news conference in support of this past August’s pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

NSAC to reach out to Nate Diaz on re-hearing following UFC 202 bottle-throwing incident

Filed under: Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos LAS VEGAS – The Nevada State Athletic Commission is giving Nate Diaz the chance to reduce his punishment for a melee with Conor McGregor ahead of this past August’s UFC 202. “What’s fair is fair,” NSAC Chairman Anthony Marnell told MMAjunkie after the commission today voted unanimously to reduce McGregor’s fine and community service . The commission ran back the UFC lightweight champ’s case, accepting a settlement agreement that issues McGregor a $25,000 fine, plus court costs, and 25 hours of community service to be completed within six months. Previously, he was given 50 hours and fined 5 percent of his $3 million purse , or $150,000. Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC), who lost a majority decision against McGregor (20-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) at UFC 202, settled with the NSAC this past December after McGregor’s contentious hearing, agreeing to a $50,000 fine and 50 hours of community service.
