MMAjunkie and USA TODAY Sports had a photographer at each of those shows, which featured 457 different fights. Some of the sport’s most epic and iconic moments are captured through a lens. With another year of octagon action complete, it’s time to look back the best photos from the past 12 months. The organization put on a total of five events in the opening two months of the year: UFC Fight Night 103 in Phoenix; UFC on FOX 23 in Denver; UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston; UFC 208 in Brooklyn, N.Y.; and UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Filed under: Featured , News , UFC As far as robberies go, the best (or worst?) of the bunch in 2017 wasn’t exactly “ Ocean’s Eleven ” level. It probably wasn’t even “ Ocean’s Twelve ” or “ Ocean’s Thirteen .” It might’ve been “ Logan Lucky .” That’s to say the year’s biggest robbery isn’t one we’re likely to still be talking about five years from now like, say, Leonard Garcia over Chan Sung Jung . Or Garcia over Nam Phan . Or Diego Sanchez over Ross Pearson . We could have gone with an avant-garde suggestion given to me earlier this week that it should be Khabib Nurmagomedov not making the scale for UFC 209 , thus denying us (for now) the opportunity to see him vs. Tony Ferguson

Filed under: News , UFC , Videos The New York State Athletic Commission’s interim chief found no fault in referee Todd Anderson’s performance in the octagon during UFC 208’s headliner between Germaine de Randamie and Holly Holm . Consequently, the commission couldn’t justify changing the results, NYSAC Interim Chair Anthony Giardina wrote in a four-page decision submitted to Holm’s attorneys upon denying her appeal.

Filed under: Featured , News , UFC Holly Holm ’s appeal to the New York State Athletic Commission on her UFC 208 loss to Germaine de Randamie has been denied. NYSAC rep Laz Benitez and Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez confirmed the news to MMAjunkie following a report from MMAFighting.com . A public records request for the commission’s decision is pending. Fresquez said today he accepts the appeal result and has no further plans to contest the loss, “except for a rematch with Germaine.” “That’s what Holly wants to do,” Fresquez told MMAjunkie. Holm’s attorneys, Paul Bardacke and Breanna Houghton, filed an official appeal earlier this month, asking the NYSAC to assess referee Todd Anderson’s performance in the pay-per-view headliner and inaugural women’s featherweight title bout, which took place Feb. 11 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y

USADA clears ‘Cyborg’ Justino for immediate return to UFC

Invicta FC featherweight champ and UFC star Cristiane Justino (17-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been granted a retroactive therapeutic-use exemption by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, clearing the way for her shot at the women’s featherweight championship. USADA announced the decision today on its website, ending a two-month period of uncertainty after Justino failed an out-of-competition drug test and faced an anti-doping violation that could have derailed her title hopes. Justino was granted the exemption after a comprehensive review of her medical history involving spironolactone, the banned diuretic for which she tested positive, USADA said.

Filed under: Featured , News , UFC , Videos Newly minted UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie believes she will undergo surgery on her hand but is waiting on the opinion of a doctor before she makes her final decision. “The doctor told me it’s something I can’t avoid,” de Randamie said during a media teleconference arranged by the UFC. “I don’t want to have permanent damage, so that’s something I want to figure out, if I have to do it now or I can do it at a later stage.” De Randamie (8-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) appeared to put the new division on pause immediately after she outpointed Holly Holm (10-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) at last Saturday’s UFC 208 , announcing she would take time off to address her hand. In this past Saturday’s UFC 208 pay-per-view headliner, de Randamie (8-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) earned a narrow unanimous-decision win over Holly Holm (10-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC), which included some questionable round-ending punches , to win the inaugural belt. Then things got really interesting. While de Randamie initially said she planned to take some time off (due to a past hand injury) when asked about 145-pound wrecking machine Cristiane Justino (17-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), a few days later she stumped for an immediate rematch with her UFC 208 opponent, though Holm’s camp has its reservations.
