It’s been a busy year in the UFC’s design department. A total of 39 events, and each one comes with its own specially designed poster, a chance to sell the fight card to the masses with one carefully crafted image. That’s no easy task, and with each new event there is no shortage of fans with strong opinions on how successfully (or not) the UFC has met the challenge. For the bigger events, sometimes it even becomes a competition among fans to see who can come up with better stuff than the UFC itself. ( For example …) But how did the UFC do at churning out creative, effective fight posters in the year 2017? For some analysis, we turned to professional artist and illustrator Marco Bucci , who was kind enough to take a break from his busy life of being awesome on Instagram in order to give us his picks for the five best and worst UFC fight posters this year.

Luke Sanders at UFC 209 Iuri Alcantara (35-7 MMA, 9-4 UFC) staged one of the greatest statistical comebacks in UFC history when he rallied from multiple near-stoppages and a 107 strike differential to submit the previously unbeaten Luke Sanders (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC). Sanders hurt Alcantara with big shots – the kind that would have most referees considering a stoppage.

Although not as serious as some of his previous surgeries, Thompson (13-2-1 MMA, 8-2-1 UFC) today went under the knife at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital in Simpsonville, N.C., to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee

His nickname is “The Damage” for a good reason, apparently, and Elkins (22-5 MMA, 12-4 UFC) took plenty of it in the first round of his featherweight fight at UFC 209 against Mirsad Bektic (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC). He was a bloody mess thanks to punches and elbows.

Tony Ferguson doesn’t buy Khabib Nurmagomedov’s apology or manager’s UFC 209 pullout story

Filed under: Featured , News , UFC UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson doesn’t make much of Khabib Nurmagomedov ’s apology, nor does he buy the story offered by his rival’s manager in the wake of last Saturday’s canceled fight at UFC 209. Nurmagomedov (24-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) on Monday extended an olive branch to Ferguson (22-3 MMA, 12-1 UFC), the UFC and fans after he fell ill because of cutting weight and was forced out of the pay-per-view co-headliner . And while Ferguson sympathized with his opponent’s health scare, he dismissed the message as fake. “I knew his manager wrote it,” Ferguson told MMAjunkie. “His manager does all of his stuff. He writes from the wrong account sometimes; he writes from his account on Twitter, and it’s funny, because he’ll say something that he’s talking like Khabib, but it will be through his account, and I’m pretty sure he forgets that it’s his, and he’ll delete it

Tony Ferguson says he received less than half his contracted UFC 209 show money

UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson loves the promotion that employs him. But he’s feeling short-changed in the wake of his ill-fated interim title bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov at this past Saturday’s UFC 209. “I think they should take care of their fighters a little bit more, the ones that really put in their time and effort and really grind for them, because I’m one of those dudes, man,” he told MMAjunkie on Tuesday. “I’m one of those grinders, and I’ve never bashed my company.” Ferguson (22-3 MMA, 12-1 UFC), 33, said he was incredulous when he received a wire transfer from the promotion for “less than half” the $250,000 show purse he was contracted to receive against Nurmagomedov (24-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC), who was scratched from the fight card after he was hospitalized with health complications from his weight cut. “It was like a slap to the face,” Ferguson said
