Mickey Gall wants Diego Sanchez rematch, says kidney complications were to blame

Mickey Gall came into his last fight compromised, and would like nothing more than to run it back. After scoring the biggest win of his UFC career, taking out veteran George Sullivan in just over a minute, Gall (5-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) suffered a setback when he lost to Diego Sanchez via TKO at UFC 235. It was a fight were Gall never really got a chance to get going, as his body gave out on him during the fight. He got off to a fast start and just couldn’t keep up the pace, succumbing to Sanchez’s pressure and grappling. And he believes had his kidneys not failed him, he would have dominated the fight. “I was just sick, if had gotten me any other day of the year, he would have gotten his (expletive) kicked,” Gall told MMA Junkie.

Pedro Munhoz fined $2,500 for post-UFC 235 celebration

The Nevada Athletic Commission on Wednesday voted to fine UFC bantamweight Pedro Munhoz $2,500 plus attorney’s fees for his post-fight celebration at UFC 235. Munhoz’s total bill comes to $2,827.06 after $327.06 in fees. The fines need to be paid before his temporary suspension is lifted, an NAC representative told MMA Junkie following an initial report from MMA Fighting

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today voted unanimously to extend a temporary suspension for Munhoz’s (18-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) post-fight celebration, which followed a first-round knockout win over ex-champ Cody Garbrandt (11-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC). Munhoz will remain suspended until he goes before the NSAC for a hearing on his disciplinary complaint. He is accused of ignoring the commission’s instructions to stay in the octagon after his fight and to stay off the octagon fence

Darren Till: Tyron Woodley didn’t show up to fight Kamaru Usman like he did against me

LONDON – As far as Darren Till is concerned, the difference between Tyron Woodley ’s fight with him as opposed to his fight with Kamaru Usman might as well be night and day. “To me, and this is no disrespect to Usman in no way: I actually sent Usman a message after the fight congratulating him and saying I can’t wait to fight,” Till told MMA Junkie on Wednesday. “I know Usman was chasing me a while back, but now it’s obviously me chasing him. But it just didn’t seem to me like the Woodley team turned up to fight like they did (against) me.” As a result, Woodley lost the welterweight title to Usman earlier this month at UFC 235 after being dominated for 25 minutes

(Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Usman had surgery on his knee.) Less than two weeks after winning the UFC welterweight title, Kamaru Usman is on the mend. Usman (15-1 MMA, 10-0 UFC) underwent surgery to repair a double hernia on Tuesday in Philadelphia, his manager Ali Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie. Not long after the procedure was completed, a groggy Usman went live on his Instagram Story and reacted. “I had knee surgery before, I thought this was going to be like that,” Usman said. “This ain’t that at all – at all. This (expletive) different.” Usman claimed the UFC welterweight title earlier this month when he dominated Tyron Woodley in a five-round unanimous decision in the UFC 235 co-headliner

Mickey Gall at UFC 235: Best photos A big knee to the body caused Mickey Gall to crumble, signaling the beginning of the end to his fight with Diego Sanchez, and now some light has been shed as to what might’ve contributed. Gall suffered a second-round TKO loss to Sanchez 10 days ago at UFC 235 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It turns out Gall was suffering from much more prior to the fight but only realized it when he was hospitalized after his loss. On Tuesday, Gall issued an update on his health and said he had been released from a Las Vegas hospital (via Instagram ).

Tyron Woodley’s coach: No excuses for Kamaru Usman loss, realistic about immediate rematch

Things didn’t go Tyron Woodley ’s way at UFC 235, and his coach, Duke Roufus, is fully prepared to embrace going back to the drawing board. Kamaru Usman put on a splendid performance in the UFC 235 co-headliner last weekend, defeating Woodley by unanimous decision to claim the welterweight title. It wasn’t Usman winning that surprised so many fans and observers ; it was the way Usman won, dominating with his takedowns and grappling to impose his will for 25 minutes on the now-former champion. For his part, Roufus told MMAjunkie Radio that nothing about Usman’s performance caught him by surprise. He simply gave credit where credit is due.
