Jessica Andrade attempted to keep her “cool” during a recent incident in her native Brazil, where she was robbed at gunpoint. However, the UFC strawweight champion admits there were moments she feared for her life. Last week, Andrade (20-6 MMA, 11-4 UFC) and her wife, Fernanda Gomes, were driving when their car was stopped by a motorcyclist. The perpetrators forced the two women to hand over their cellphones, jewelry and other items before taking the vehicle . Andrade said she wasn’t completely aware of the incoming robbery until she spotted the gun, and at that point she simply followed instructions and attempted to keep her wife calm.

Anderson Silva expresses serious doubts about fighting after UFC 237

Based on his own words, it’s safe to consider Anderson Silva ’s fighting future very much in question. Silva, the former longtime UFC middleweight champion, is coming off a disappointing loss to Jared Cannonier last weekend at UFC 237 in Rio de Janeiro. More concerning, though, is the status of Silva’s health after an inside leg kick caused his knee to buckle , forcing the stoppage late in the first round.

Alexander Volkanovski in stable condition after infection, remains in hospital

Alexander Volkanovski appears to have dodged a serious health scare, but he’s not completely out of the woods just yet. In what should be a time of celebration for Volkanovski following his signature win over Jose Aldo at UFC 237 this past week, the featherweight contender remains hospitalized in Chile after an unforeseen blood infection. Volkanovski was on his way back home to Australia from Rio de Janeiro, where he beat former champion Aldo via unanimous decision , when he had to be hospitalized due to a blood infection that “developed quickly.” Although “The Great” is still receiving care, his manager, Rhys Dal Cin, provided a promising update on social media (via Twitter ): @alexvolkanovski condition is stable, he is responding well to the treatment. As a precaution, he will remain under supervision at the hospital and will be re-assessed in 48hrs to ensure the infection is completely under control before given any clearance to travel home. With Volkanovski’s stay in the hospital ongoing, the fact that he’s not getting the next title shot at 145 pounds appears to be more reasonable. Despite the Aussie riding a 17-fight winning streak, Frankie Edgar was recently announced as the next challenger for champ Max Holloway at UFC 240 on July 27.

A lot of us probably looked at the lineup for UFC 237 in Rio de Janeiro and thought (or maybe just hoped) there would be one or even two potential retirement speeches by the end of the night. Few of us probably thought that we’d make it all the way through and the only one seriously discussing the possibility of leaving the sport would be 26-year-old Rose Namajunas , who looked as sharp as she ever has right up until she got slammed on her head and lost her strawweight title. Isn’t that just the way it goes? The fighters you want to see more of aren’t sure they want to give it to you

Alexander Volkanovski in ‘good spirits’ after being hospitalized in Chile due to infection

Things took a negative turn for UFC featherweight contender Alexander Volkanovski after the biggest win of his career, but the good news is that he is in good spirits. Volkanovski was on his way back home to Australia from Rio de Janeiro, where he beat former champion Jose Aldo via unanimous decision at UFC 237 on Saturday, when he had to be hospitalized due to a blood infection that “developed quickly.” ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was first to report the news, which was later confirmed by Volkanovski’s manager, Rhys Dal Cin, on Twitter . According to ESPN’s report, Volkanovski complained of “sore feet, redness of his left foot and feeling sick” on Monday, as he was leaving his hotel in Rio. By the time he reached Santiago, Chile, for a layover, things took a turn for the worse and they sought medical attention. That’s when the airport doctor recommended he went to a hospital.
