Petr Yan twice has had a UFC title put around his waist, but it could be argued his biggest fight yet is his next one. Yan (16-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) is set to take on Sean O’Malley (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in a key bantamweight bout at UFC 280, which takes place Oct. 22 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The main card, including Yan-O’Malley, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

The welterweight rivalry between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington reached far beyond the eight caged walls of the UFC octagon, but Usman definitively asserted his dominance with a late TKO finish as he retained his UFC welterweight title against the trash-talking former interim champ at UFC 245 . Covington was booed and jeered to the cage as he walked out to Kurt Angle’s famous WWE walkout song, and those same fans were cheering as, after four back-and-forth rounds that saw both men tested, Usman made the crucial breakthrough to finish his rival in the final minute of the bout at T-Mobile Arena. Covington looked to overwhelm Usman with his pace early, but the champion kept his cool and picked his shots well as he preserved his energy for the full five-round duration. The action was well-contested, with Covington looking to outwork the champion, while Usman’s shots appeared to connect with more power

They call Geoff Neal “Handz of Steel” for good reason. Neal looked to make it seven in a row when he faced the tough and durable Mike Perry at UFC 245 in Las Vegas last December. In a battle between two strikers, the power difference was apparent as Neal made quick work of Perry who, at that point, had never been stopped due to strikes. Just over a minute into the fight, Neal connected with a big head kick that rocked “Platinum.” Seeing the opening for a swift finish, Neal continued to pile on the pressure before eventually finishing his man with a barrage of strikes.

The build-up to the welterweight title fight between champion Kamaru Usman and former interim champion Colby Covington at UFC 245 was tetchy and fractious. But all of the bad blood before the fight translated into a bout to remember on fight night itself as the warring welterweights produced a thrilling main event at UFC 245 last December. After the pair, unsurprisingly, declined the opportunity to touch gloves ahead of the bout, the action got underway, with both men steadfastly standing and trading heavy shots for the entirety of the fight as they abandoned their respective wrestling skillsets in favor of a knock-down, drag-out slugfest. While Covington (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) looked the faster and slightly sharper in the early exchanges, it was Usman (16-1 MMA, 11-0 UFC) whose more selective shots appeared to carry more power. Those shots started to add up on Covington, who told his corner at the end of the third round that he thought he had sustained a broken jaw. Despite being in clear discomfort, Covington fought on admirably and connected with the champion on numerous occasions

Kamaru Usman scoffs at Colby Covington’s fake foul claims: ‘This kid is tiring’

LAS VEGAS – Kamaru Usman won’t entertain Colby Covington ’s fake foul accusations. Usman (16-1 MMA, 11-0 UFC) finished Covington (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) in a thrilling battle to retain his UFC welterweight title at this past December’s UFC 245, in a last-minute stoppage that Covington immediately contested. Covington was also unhappy with referee Marc Goddard , accusing him of giving Usman unnecessary breaks in the heated action that saved him from losing the fight. But Usman says he doesn’t understand why Covington is claiming that he was faking those fouls when there’s video evidence to prove otherwise.
