MMAjunkie and USA TODAY Sports had a photographer at each of those shows, which featured 457 different fights. Some of the sport’s most epic and iconic moments are captured through a lens. With another year of octagon action complete, it’s time to look back the best photos from the past 12 months. The organization put on a total of five events in the opening two months of the year: UFC Fight Night 103 in Phoenix; UFC on FOX 23 in Denver; UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston; UFC 208 in Brooklyn, N.Y.; and UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s been a busy year in the UFC’s design department. A total of 39 events, and each one comes with its own specially designed poster, a chance to sell the fight card to the masses with one carefully crafted image. That’s no easy task, and with each new event there is no shortage of fans with strong opinions on how successfully (or not) the UFC has met the challenge. For the bigger events, sometimes it even becomes a competition among fans to see who can come up with better stuff than the UFC itself. ( For example …) But how did the UFC do at churning out creative, effective fight posters in the year 2017? For some analysis, we turned to professional artist and illustrator Marco Bucci , who was kind enough to take a break from his busy life of being awesome on Instagram in order to give us his picks for the five best and worst UFC fight posters this year.

Penn a few weeks ago, Yair Rodriguez can admit just taking the fight put him in a no-win situation. Rodriguez (10-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) battered Penn (16-11-2 MMA, 12-10-2 UFC) in the former two-division champion’s return from retirement and ultimately took a second-round TKO home with him at UFC Fight Night 103 in Phoenix. It kept him perfect in the UFC, and marching up the ladder in the featherweight division. But he still had his critics, and apparently was going to have them no matter what. “After the fight, some people thought I overreacted because I won,” Rodriguez told USA TODAY Sports today during an appearance ahead of Super Bowl LI in Houston, where UFC Fight Night 104 takes place Saturday

Coach Jason Parillo on B.J. Penn fighting again: ‘Gun to my head, I’d say yes’

But the next time Penn steps into the cage – if there is a next time – he wants the UFC Hall of Famer, his promoter, and all of his coaches to be a little more discerning about who he fights. “If we can all get under the same roof and have the same focus and direction and focus on a guy that’s on his level now,” Parillo told MMAjunkie at a media day for Saturday’s Bellator 170, where he corners headliner Tito Ortiz in a retirement fight against Chael Sonnen. It’s not yet known whether Penn (16-11-2 MMA, 12-10-2 UFC), 38, will ever make the walk to the octagon again

UFC Fight Night 103′s Ben Saunders says he was in debt before win over Court McGee

Filed under: News , UFC , Videos PHOENIX – With the start of his third stint in the UFC out of the way, Ben Saunders can get back to what he hopes is some normalcy – and hopefully making a more steady paycheck. On Sunday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 103 in Phoenix, Saunders (21-7 MMA, 8-4 UFC) returned to the UFC and took a unanimous decision from his friend Court McGee (18-6 MMA, 7-5 UFC). The result was one that was debated – roughly half the media tracked by MMADecisions.com scored the fight for McGee instead of Saunders
