It’s been a busy year in the UFC’s design department. A total of 39 events, and each one comes with its own specially designed poster, a chance to sell the fight card to the masses with one carefully crafted image. That’s no easy task, and with each new event there is no shortage of fans with strong opinions on how successfully (or not) the UFC has met the challenge. For the bigger events, sometimes it even becomes a competition among fans to see who can come up with better stuff than the UFC itself. ( For example …) But how did the UFC do at churning out creative, effective fight posters in the year 2017? For some analysis, we turned to professional artist and illustrator Marco Bucci , who was kind enough to take a break from his busy life of being awesome on Instagram in order to give us his picks for the five best and worst UFC fight posters this year.

Filed under: Featured , News , UFC As if we needed any further proof that announcing your retirement from MMA competition well in advance of your last fight is the way to go, consider the case of Brad Pickett . “One Punch” suffered his final defeat at UFC Fight Night 107 in London on Saturday. He was doing well, leading Marlon Vera on two of the three scorecards heading into the final round, then bang, a kick upside his head had him looking up at the ceiling. A couple extra hammerfists sent Vera (9-3-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) off to celebrate his win while Pickett (25-14 MMA, 5-9 UFC) was left complaining to the referee.

In the main event, hometown favorite Jimi Manuwa (17-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) shut down Corey Anderson (9-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with one swift left punch, then called for not only a title shot against the winner between light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson, but a boxing match, too. In the co-feature, welterweight Gunnar Nelson (16-2-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) did what he does best when he dropped Alan Jouban (15-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC), then pounced on him for a perfect guillotine choke submission early in the second. Most people may wind up remembering UFC Fight Night 107, though, for the retirement fight of London bantamweight Brad Pickett (25-14 MMA, 5-9 UFC).
