Newcomer Marina Rodriguez not in love with UFC Sao Paulo draw but happy with display

SAO PAULO – A draw isn’t usually the type of result to elicit positive reactions from its protagonists. But Marina Rodriguez (11-0-1 MMA, 0-0-1 UFC), who met fellow strawweight Randa Markos (8-6-1 MMA, 4-5-1 UFC) in the FS1-televised main card of this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 137, wasn’t immediately mad at how the judges scored her UFC debut. “When you leave it to the judges, it can go either way,” Rodriguez told reporters, including MMAjunkie, backstage at Ibirapuera Gymnasium. “They gave it a draw.

There were plenty of reasons for that, Oliveira explained backstage. There was the fact that, fighting for the first time in his home state of Sao Paulo since joining the UFC, Oliveira (24-8 MMA, 12-8 UFC) got to have his mom, grandma and baby daughter in the audience.

Evan Dunham content with retirement after UFC Sao Paulo – but missed congratulatory call from Dana White

Evan Dunham hung up his gloves after his fight this past Saturday, something he planned in advance. Dunham (18-8-1 MMA, 11-8-1 UFC) didn’t go out on a high note, though. He dropped a second-round TKO to Francisco Trinaldo (23-6 MMA, 13-5 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 137 in Sao Paulo. But the 36-year-old said he’s leaving the competition side of the sport with no regrets. “I’m extremely happy,” Dunham on Tuesday told MMAjunkie Radio.

In a light heavyweight bout on the UFC Fight Night 137 undercard, he lost via TKO in the second round after being dropped by a big left hand from Antonio Rogerio Nogueira , a 42-year-old man who, prior to this, hadn’t won a fight in a little over two years. So yeah, not great. Good news, though. According to Alvey, that is the last loss he will permit himself to suffer.

SAO PAULO – Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 137 ended quite well for Francisco Trinaldo , who has now officially – and violently – recovered from a loss to James Vick. But what people probably couldn’t tell by watching his shutdown of Evan Dunham (18-8-1 MMA, 11-8-1 UFC), which came via a vicious knee to the body , is that Trinaldo (23-6 MMA, 13-5 UFC) came close to pulling out of the FS2-televised lightweight bout. In fact, Trinaldo told reporters backstage at Ibirapuera Gymnasium, he thought of canceling four times, due to a broken tooth that he says caused him the worst pain he’s felt in his life. “I spent a week with tooth pain,” Trinaldo said. “I trained, I couldn’t sleep. I disappeared from the gym.
