Marina Rodriguez now owns back-to-back victories in UFC main events, and the Brazilian striker may soon find herself involved in a championship contest. After picking up a hard-fought decision win over Mackenzie Dern at this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night 194 , Rodriguez (15-1-2 MMA, 5-1-2 UFC) is clearly among the absolute best in the world at 115 pounds. Unfortunately for her, at least for the time being, there simply isn’t a lot of room for her to move. Still, the 34-year-old contender does rise one spot to No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie strawweight rankings.

Mackenzie Dern and eight other fighters are among facing potential lengthy suspensions following their respective bouts at UFC Fight Night 194. The grappling standout was given an 180 day suspension unless cleared by a doctor for an injury on her right thumb following her decision loss to Marina Rodriguez in the main event of Saturday’s card in Las Vegas.

After putting together four consecutive victories to put herself in a UFC headliner for the first time, Dern (11-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) had her momentum brought to a screeching halt by Rodriguez (16-1-2 MMA, 5-1-2 UFC) in the strawweight matchup at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Dern couldn’t get the fight to the ground consistently or long enough to score a submission, and she spent the bulk of the time getting tagged by Rodriguez on the feet en route to a unanimous decision loss . It wasn’t exactly a blowout, but the outcome highlighted Dern’s need to advance her overall skill set since more fights are on the horizon at 115 pounds.
