Suspended Antonio Silva undergoes shoulder surgery after war with Mark Hunt

Antonio Silva had been hoping to make a quick turnaround and get right back in the cage after his epic battle against Mark Hunt a month ago. But with his nine-month suspension for testing positive for elevated testosterone levels, that won’t be happening. Instead, even though “Bigfoot” told MMAjunkie not long after the bout at UFC Fight Night 33 that he was “a little beat up but nothing serious,” the heavyweight went under the knife for shoulder surgery.

Dr. Marcio Tannure outlines Antonio Silva’s ‘inaccurate statements’ regarding failed drug test

Dr. Marcio Tannure, medical director for Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA Medical Director (CABMMA), Brazil’s regulatory body for MMA, isn’t happy with Antonio Silva ‘s comments blaming him for failing a post-fight drug test at UFC Fight Night 33 . “To be clear, I am not, nor have I ever been, Antonio Silva’s medical doctor,” Tannure stated. “Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva has made some inaccurate statements in the media recently concerning the circumstances leading up to his positive test for an elevated testosterone ratio,” Tannure wrote in a statement emailed to MMAjunkie. “I am releasing this statement to clarify the facts related to my limited involvement leading up to his fight with Mark Hunt .” As a result of the failed test, Silva was suspended nine months , and his $50,000 bonus from the Brisbane, Australia fight was awarded to Hunt.

Some drug test failures are shocking. This one just feels depressing. It feels like a bummer. That was the first thought I had when I learned that Antonio Silva had tested positive for elevated testosterone levels after his incredible fight with Mark Hunt earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 33. What a bummer.

Former UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos recently told MMAFighting he’d like to meet the winner of Barnett vs. Travis Browne , who fight at this month’s UFC 168 . Just prior to putting on one of the best heavyweight fights in history, Antonio Silva said he still holds a grudge against “The Warmaster” and wants to settle it. Barnett, who returned to the UFC in August after an 11-year hiatus to knock out ex-champ Frank Mir, said he hadn’t heard of the interest.

On Friday, Ryan Bader will undergo surgery to repair a broken hand he suffered in a dominant decision victory over Anthony Perosh at UFC Fight Night 33. “I went two back-to-back camps, so I’ve been in the gym constantly for four or five months,” Bader told MMAjunkie Radio. “So I get a little break, and get that fire back and get in there when I’m healed up.” The injury, however, could nix matchups Bader thought he might get after his win, which put him back on the right track after a knockout loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 28 in September. He was hoping for a matchup with the likes of Mauricio Rua or Phil Davis . “With a broken hand, it puts me back, and some of these guys that I thought I could fight, like ‘Shogun’ or a Phil Davis or whatever, they might get fights before,” he said.
